Mathematical and Statistical Analysis for Engineering Applications (Primary faculty mentors: Drs. Jung-Han Kimn (Mathematics), Gary Hatfield(Statistics),and Junwon Seo (Civil Engineering) Objective: This is interdisciplinary research opportunity. Program: REU student scholars in this research group will be involved in this program will (1) understand the structural behavior of buildings or bridges subjected to service and extreme loads using structural analysis software; (2) develop statistical models capable of replicating the structural behaviors; and (3) statistically and numerically estimate their vulnerability via basic probabilistic theories. Preferred Qualification for Applicant: The interdisciplinary group will recruit from engineering and mathematical & statistical disciplines. Ideal students would have a fundamental background on program with a strong interest in statistical and mathematical analysis.
