The leaves are turning to their beautiful colours. The OSS stakes are over and some trainers are preparing to move south for the winter. We went to the Little Brown Jug this year for the first time. What an awesome event. The picture above is Clyde Francis and “Wiggle It Jiggleit” with Chaplain Ken on Wednesday before the race. I had heard about all the people but seeing is believing. There were people lined up 10-15 deep all around the backstretch and the final turn. There were over 46,000 in attendance. Many said it was the best race ever. I had the privilege of speaking at the prayer breakfast held by the Christian Harness Horseman’s Association with about 50 attending. BARBEQUES. We held our final barbeque of the season at 1st Line Training Centre on Oct.7. A special thanks to Jonas and Ruth Stutzman who prepared all kinds of salads, hot dishes and desserts to go along with our hamburgs, hot dogs and sausages. There was a tremendous turnout and most stayed around and enjoyed each other’s company. This may be one of the few times they get to just hang out together. GOLF TOURNAMENT. Our annual golf Tournament, (renamed : “The Doug Hyatt Memorial”) was held on Sept.16. It was a huge success with about 103 golfers and 146 seated for dinner. A special thanks to all who volunteered their time and effort to make it a success, as well as those who came to play and those who donated for hole sponsors or the auctions. It was good to see so many of the Hyatt family attending. WEDDINGS. This has been a busy summer performing wedding ceremonies. It is good to see so many young couples making the decision for a lifetime commitment. Hopefully they realize that this commitment is not only between the two of them but when God is included, it makes it much easier and more successful. THE STABLE THAT GOD LOVES. Thanks to Bill Galvin who had the vision for this project and has worked tirelessly to make it a success. As of the time of writing, the Stable boasts 102 wins, 80 seconds, 76 thirds and a whopping $4,229,972 in purse earnings. Special thanks to all the owners, trainers and drivers who have generously donated 1 percent of their earnings to promote the work of the chaplaincy. Ken Middleton has kept track of the wins and posts them on facebook within a short time of the win. Above is Don’t Rush winning the super Final for 3 year old colts and geldings. “Ain’t She A Sweetie” recorded the first win for the Stable that God Loves. How appropriate is this? She is owned by the Hyatt family. reconcile. You may be surprised to find that the other person wants reconciliation as much as you do! Keep in mind, temper is what gets most of us into trouble. Pride is what keeps us there. that said: SCHOOL CROSSING. Three days later Farmer John called the policeman and said, "You've still got to do something about these drivers. The 'school crossing' sign seems to make them go even faster!" Scripture: Pride goes before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall. Better to be of a humble spirit with the lowly, than to divide the spoil with the proud. Proverbs 16:18, 19. NKJV So again, they put up a new sign: SLOW: CHILDREN AT PLAY. That really sped them up. So John called and said, "Your signs are no good, Can I put up my own sign?" In order to get him off his back the policeman said, "Sure. Put up your own sign." The phone calls to the police station stopped, but curiosity got the better of the officer, so he called Farmer John. "How is the problem with the speeding drivers? Did you put up your sign?" Devotion: In an old monastery near Bebenhausen, Germany, one may see two pairs of deer horns hanging on the wall. The horns are interlocked. They were found in that position many years ago. Apparently two bucks had been fighting for territorial or herd rights, and their horns became jammed together and could not be seperated. They died in a fighting position, unable to find a way of cooperating so that on bended knees, both might eat or drink or eventually free itself from the other. These locked horns are not unlike many relationships that can be found today in homes, schools, factories, offices, and even churches. People become entrenched in their positions and angrily confront those who oppose them. In the process, they "lock horns" and seem unable to ask each other for forgiveness, or find a mutual way of serving one another in love. Both parties in such a relationship suffer, and ultimately lose. If you are at odds with someone today, go to that person and ask what the two of you might do to Chaplain Ken with 3 girls from RUS Smile Time: Farmer John once lived on a quiet rural highway, but as time went by the traffic slowly built up and eventually got so heavy and so fast that his free-range chickens were being run over at a rate of three to six a week. So Farmer John called the local police station to complain, "You've got to do something about all these people driving so fast and killing all my chickens," he said to the local police officer. "What do you want me to do?" asked the policeman. "I don't care; just do something about those crazy drivers," replied John. So the next day the policeman had the council erect a sign "Sure did, and not one chicken has been killed," replied John. The policeman was really curious and thought he'd better go out and take a look at the sign. He also thought the sign might be something the police could use elsewhere to slow drivers down. So, he drove out to Farmer John's house, and his jaw dropped the moment he saw the sign: "NUDIST COLONY…Slow down & watch for chicks!" *God's Little Devotional Book Thanks to Doug Hyatt for his dedication.
