SCHOOL DISTRICT SAMPLE LETTER TO THE GOVERNOR: [SCHOOL DISTRICT LETTER HEAD] The Honorable Edmund G. Brown, Jr. Governor, State of California State Capitol Building, First Floor Sacramento, CA 95814 RE: NEED FOR A STATE SCHOOL BOND ON THE NOVEMBER 2014 BALLOT Dear Governor Brown: The purpose of this letter is to urge you to place a school bond on the November 2014 ballot. The [SCHOOL DISTRICT NAME] has the following needs: [If possible list school names and anticipated dollars needed for each or simply list dollar amounts in each category] Modernization Rehabilitation and/or Seismic New Construction Career Technical Education Other Additionally, CHOOSE ONE POINT FROM THE LIST BELOW TO INCLUDE: Between your local funding sources and state matching funds, jobs will be created in your community and region – identify specifics about unemployment if you have it. A statewide bond can leverage local school bonds and encourage more local communities to place bonds on the ballot, enhancing the economic stimulus effect. A school bond would put real dollars on the street much faster than other infrastructure projects. Under the State Allocation Board’s Priorities in Funding Program, construction must begin within 90 days of a project funding approval. Construction jobs would be immediately available upon passage of a bond due to ongoing facility needs. Schools already have construction-ready projects in the pipeline that have received the required state agency approvals and have completed the CEQA process, yet depend on availability of state matching funds. Under the State Allocation Board’s Priorities in Funding Program, construction would begin within 90 days of a project funding approval. Californians recognize that schools are old, outdated, and require upgrades to meet health and safety standards, including seismic and other important mitigation measures. Funding these needs continues to be a top priority to voters, despite the state’s fiscal challenges. We urge you to place a bond on the November ballot and pledge your support for the powerful economic stimulus tool of school construction.
