1 Collyer Lane, Basking Ridge, NJ 07920 Phone: 908-204-3001; Fax: 908-204-3015; Website: www.bernards.org Resolution #2013-0208 Adoption of Procedures for Community Service – Furniture Removal Program WHEREAS, the position of Community Service Director exists pursuant to §2-9 of the Revised General Ordinances of the Township of Bernards; and WHEREAS, the Community Service Director shall supervise the Bernards Township Community Service Program and is responsible for the development and implementation of operating processes and procedures, as well as for the general supervision of all community service workers and community service volunteers; and WHEREAS, one of the services offered by Community Service is the Furniture Removal Program; and WHEREAS, the Community Service Director is recommending that the Township Committee, from time to time, formally endorse the procedures and fee schedule set forth by him regarding the Furniture Removal Program. NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, by the Township Committee of the Township of Bernards that we do hereby endorse the following procedures and fee schedule established by the Community Service Director for the Furniture Removal Program 1. Individuals residing or operating a business or non-profit in Bernards Township may donate furniture to the Community Service Program by dropping off usable furniture donations at the Community Service Facility on Stonehouse Road during normal operating hours. Call 908-766-0748, to confirm acceptability of item to be donated, and to schedule a time when staff or volunteers will be on hand to accept the donation. 2. Individuals residing or operating a business or non-profit who wish to have Community Service pick-up their furniture donations at their Bernards Township property may schedule an appointment with Community Service by calling 908-766-9748, or emailing LMillus@bernards.org. There will be a $30 trip fee (maximum load per trip is 396 sq. ft) for this service (bonafide 501-3C Charitable Organizations are exempt from the fee) . This fee will be used to offset the cost of gasoline, insurance and wear and use of township vehicles used for this service. Only checks will be acceptable, made payable to Bernards Township, collected by the Community Director or his designee at the time of pick-up. Anyone scheduling a furniture pick-up under this section shall sign a Release of Liability with Bernards Township. 3. Community Service reserves the right to refuse any furniture that is not deemed in usable condition or not wanted by charitable entities. Activities are strictly restricted to removal of the furniture donations from the property. Above named and on behalf of his or her heirs, assigns or successors hereby executes this assumption of risk and release in light of that understanding and acknowledgement. Above named and on behalf of his or her heirs, assigns or successors in interest hereby assume the risk of injury, disability, or damages which may occur while Bernards Township Community Service staff and volunteers are on their property. Above named acknowledges that it has not been requested by the Township of Bernards to participate in this activity. The above named releases and discharges the Township of Bernards, its Township Committee members, its officers, employees, and agents, from Liability claims, disability, damages or injuries occurring while the Community Service staff and volunteers are on their property and structures thereon.
