ANNOUNCEMENT OF VACANCY
Suitably qualified citizens of the Member States and Associate Members of the Association of
Caribbean States are invited to apply for the position of Tourism Adviser at the ACS Secretariat
at its headquarters in Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago.

Duties and Responsibilities:
To serve as the Sustainable Tourism Adviser under the direction of the Sustainable Tourism
Director.
To provide technical advice on issues in his\her area of competence and in accordance with the
programmes and projects of the Secretariat.
To foster an awareness of the existence of the ACS as a vehicle for regional co-operation by
acting as a focal point for matters related to sustainable tourism and the activities of the
Association as a whole.
Functions:
Advise the Director on all matters related to tourism and support initiatives aimed at achieving
the objectives and mandates of the Association;
Assist in the preparation of strategies for implementation in areas that the Secretariat has been
mandated;
Apply knowledge, principles and techniques of an academic nature to the area of Sustainable
Tourism;
Facilitate improved performance of the functions of the Association and the optimal use of its
resources in the area of Sustainable Tourism.
Specific Responsibilities:
1. Assist in the design and implementation of strategies which will facilitate the
establishment of the Sustainable Tourism Zone in the Caribbean;
2. Support the functions of the Special Committee including
reports on the activities of the Committee;

3. Co-ordinate all aspects of working meetings including the preparation and circulation of
working documents, liaison with the country representatives and preparation of reports
on the outcomes of these meetings;
4. Manage all aspects of projects undertaken by the Tourism Directorate , including the
financial , technical and logistical requirements;
5. Conceptualize projects and prepare proposals for submission to the special fund and
other donors in accordance with the criteria specified by each donor;
6. Assist in evaluating the submissions from consultants in response to ‘Calls for Proposals
‘ and support the work of the consultants engaged by the ACS;
7. Act as the liaison between the ACS and functionaries at regional and international
tourism organisations, such as the CTO, WTO, CARICOM, CHA, SICA, UNEP etc.
Collaborate as assigned on the projects and programmes undertaken by these
organisations;
8. Establish direct linkages with focal points in the Member States to provide guidance
aimed at fulfilling the objectives and mandates of the ACS;
9. Co-ordinate and monitor the compilation of tourism data, and statistical information as
part of the Integrated Information System of the Greater Caribbean;
10. Conduct the research required to support the work of the Sustainable Tourism
Directorate.
Minimum qualifications:



Post Graduate University qualifications from an accredited institution in the field of
tourism or Sustainable Tourism with specialization in Management, Administration
or Policy Development.
Minimum of 5 years professional international experience in the multidisciplinary
tourism field.
Experience in project management is essential





Excellent oral and written communication skills in one of the official languages of
the ACS. Must be fluent in a second official language of the ACS and possess
certificates attesting to proficiency in this language. A working knowledge of a third
language will be considered an asset
Knowledge of the Member States of the ACS
Diplomatic experience and some level of familiarity of Politics in the Greater
Caribbean will be considered an asset
Demonstrated ability to use a wide range of computer software including MS Office
Suite (Microsoft word, Excel, Spreadsheet, Power point), and project management
software as well as proficiency in the use of the internet
Persons in this position should possess excellent Public Relations and interpersonal
skills as well as advanced skills in problem solving, multitasking and time
management
Remuneration package:
This position is classified at the level equivalent to P-2 in the ACS salary scale. Further details
pertaining to salary and working conditions can be obtained from the ACS Secretariat. Benefits
