POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT POSITION: STUDENT RESEARCH TECHNICIAN REPORTS TO: Fisheries Biologist LOCATION: Biological Services Department Bay Mills Indian Community WAGE: $10.00/hr. STATUS: Non-Exempt TERM: Part Time Temporary 20 hours a week for up to 20 weeks beginning in April POSITION SUMMARY: The position will assist the Bay Mills Fishery Biologist and Lake Superior State University faculty in the field and lab on a research project titled, "Linkages between tributaries and Whitefish Bay and their significance for lake whitefish management." ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 1. Will collect larval, juvenile and adult whitefish, aquatic invertebrates, phytoplankton, benthic algae, and water samples as well measuring stream flow and placing and monitoring temperature loggers. 2. Lab work will involve water chemistry, stable isotope analysis, and identification of aquatic invertebrates and larval fish. 3. Will assist in any or all activities as well as the cleaning and maintenance of field and sampling gear. 4. Able to follow direction and work as a team. 5. Attend any mandatory training. 6. Other duties as assigned. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: This position may require working during adverse weather conditions and early morning, late evening, and weekend hours. The position will require heavy lifting of sampling gear, equipment, and fish. Employee should be in good physical condition and willing to accept direction from an immediate supervisor. POSITION REQUIREMENTS: 1. Junior standing in Biological Sciences, Environmental Chemistry, Natural Resources, or related degree program at a college or university. 2. Should have an interest in working outdoors in aquatic environments as well as doing lab work. 3. Must have good computer skills. 4. 5. 6. 7. Must have good oral and written communication skills. Must have excellent past work history. Must have valid driver’s license with a good driving record.
