2. Eye appeal and neatness
4. Creativity
5. Difficulty of the project selected
3. Completion
4. Amount of research
On the written portion of the project, the information must be:

2. In either Times New Roman or Arial 3. Using 12 point font
4. Double Spaced
5. With 1 inch margins.
Students are required to create a works cited page for the information used in the creation
of this project.
When presenting the project to the class, use one note card. Maintain eye contact with the
audience. Do not read to the audience.
Follow all of the teacher’s special directions.
CHOICE 1 Costume Book: The setting of the play is fourteenth-century Italy, but actors in
Shakespeare’s time would have worn Elizabethan costumes. Make a costume book by drawing a
minimum of one authentic (based on research) costume for Romeo, Juliet, Mercutio, Prince
Escalus, the Nurse, Friar Laurence, Tybalt, Lord Capulet and Lady Capulet. Label each costume
concept page according to the character, act, and scene, and include swatches to show what
materials would be used in the creation of the costume. Include a one-paragraph explanation of
each costume choice. Follow the teacher’s directions to include a Work Cited Page.
CHOICE 2 Globe Theater: Construct a model of the Globe Theater. Representations of the
Globe can be found in almost any Shakespearean anthology. Models can be made of a variety of
materials. Be creative and use discretion when choosing materials. Follow the teacher’s directions
to include a Work Cited Page.
CHOICE 3 Set Design: Design the set for three scenes from Romeo and Juliet. Display the
scenes in shadow boxes (dioramas). Clearly label each scene according to act and scene.
Arrange the scenes in chronological order. Include an explanation of each scene that is a
minimum of one-half page in length. Base the information about setting on research. Follow the
teacher’s directions to include a Work Cited Page.
CHOICE 4 Quilt Panels: Select and depict nine scenes from the play for a multiple panel quilt.
Make each panel out of paper. For each panel of the quilt, create an illustration and write a
caption which includes the act, scene, and an important quote from the scene. Create a border for
each panel and tie or string the panels together to form a large wall hanging. Acts and scenes
must be in order.
CHOICE 5 Soundtrack: Create a “soundtrack” of at least 7 songs which represent the important
moments in Romeo and Juliet. The project requires students to select and burn a CD of the
selected songs. Create the cover artwork for the CD and write a one paragraph explanation for
why each song was chosen to be a part of the soundtrack. Students will turn in the CD, the
explanations and a Work Cited Page.
CHOICE 6 Romeo and Juliet’s Wedding Scrapbook: Create a bound scrapbook from the
perspective of either Romeo OR Juliet. Students will create a cover for the book and four separate
pages to represent the major events in the play:
1) The Capulet’s Party from Act I Scene 5
2) The Balcony Scene from Act II Scene 2
3)Romeo and Juliet’s Wedding Act II Scene 6
4) The Night of the Potion from Act IV Scene 3 (for Juliet’s Scrapbook)
OR
4) The News of Juliet’s Death Act V Scene 1 (for Romeo’s Scrapbook)
Each page must include: at least a three word title, at least a half page journal entry from the
perspective of the chosen character that includes a direct quote from the play, and at least four
mementos from the occasion (symbols or objects representing the event).
ALL PROJECTS MUST BE DONE NEATLY AND MUST SHOW EVIDENCE OF
WORK! ALL ELEMENTS OF THE PROJECTS MUST BE SCHOOL APPROPRIATE IN
NATURE.
