Romeo and Juliet Project Due Date: ________________ Directions: Choose ONE project from the list below. Pay careful attention to the due date for the project. In the event that your project is late, 10% will be deducted for each day. As usual, all projects should be neat and colorful. This is part of the grade. For those projects requiring some summary or written explanation, remember to watch your grammar and punctuation. Multiple errors will result in a lower grade. CHOICE 1: The setting of the play is fourteenth-century Italy, but actors in Shakespeare’s time would have worn Elizabethan costumes. Make a costume book. Draw a minimum of one authentic (based on research) costume each for Romeo, Juliet, Mercutio, Prince Escalus, Nurse, and Friar Lawrence. Label each costume according to the character, act, and scene. Include a one-paragraph explanation of each costume. CHOICE 2: Select 10-15 scenes from the play for a multiple panel quilt. Make each panel out of paper. For each panel of the quilt, create an illustration and write a caption which includes the act, scene, and at least 1 quote. Tie, string, or tape the panels together to form a large wall hanging. Acts and scenes must be in chronological order. CHOICE 3: Select a scene with a minimum of four characters from the play. Make puppets to represent all the characters in the scene. Puppets may be made out of brown paper bags, construction paper, cloth, and any other items you can think of. You must make the puppets; you can’t use dolls. Write a full one-page paper that includes the act and scene numbers of the selected scene, a detailed summary of the scene, and an explanation of why you designed the puppets to look the way they look. CHOICE 4: Write a song about Romeo and Juliet. Display the words of the song on a poster or music paper (NOT notebook paper!). Check with me to make sure your song is long enough before turning it in. All lines should be school appropriate. Then, write a ½ page explanation of how the song relates to Romeo and Juliet. CHOICE 5: Soundtrack. Today many movie soundtracks include popular contemporary songs that help convey the movie’s theme. Choose at least 10 popular songs that might be used in the soundtrack of Romeo and Juliet and make a CD. Design a CD cover to go along with your soundtrack. Using index cards, write an explanation for each song choice. Each explanation should be at least 3 complete sentences. All songs must be school appropriate. CHOICE 6: Using a poster board, index cards, and markers, make a flip chart with important quotations from the play. You will put a quote on an index card, and you will flip up the card to see the speaker and the citation. You must have at least 10 quotations on your poster, and your poster must be well decorated. The creativity and time spent on the poster will account for the majority of the grade. CHOICE 7: Create a detailed 3-Dimensional model of the Globe Theatre. Base the model on research. Label the various parts of the model. Include the names of any research sources used on a separate sheet of paper. Type two page paper (double-spaced) detailing the history and significance of the theatre. DO NOT USE PRINT OUT MODELS FROM THE INTERNET- MODELS MUST BE ORIGINAL! CHOICE 8: THIS IS A PARTNER/GROUP PROJECT ONLY! TWO PARTS!! Part 1: Pick a scene from the play and act it out with your partner/group. You will need to write a script and make props. Make sure you choose an important scene. You will then make a video of your scene Part 2: Your group will create an “auto-tuned” version of your scene, utilizing music, video clips, photos, and sound effects. Projects will be graded based on creativity, originality, preparation, and presentation. While this IS a group project, individual grades will be assigned in large part based on your equal participation in the project. CHOICE 9: Develop a board game based on the story of Romeo and Juliet. Include all game pieces and directions. The game should be enjoyable and educational. There should be at least 20 questions to go with your game. You will be expected to demonstrate the game and show classmates how it works.
