Class Information and Grading Procedures
Dear Parent(s) / Guardian (s),
Welcome to the 2013-14 school year. We look forward to working with you and your child to have a successful
year. Below you will find a brief outline of our class assignments that will be expected of your child. Please
take a moment to read over these items and discuss them with your child. If you have any questions or concerns
please feel free to contact us.
Please read and return the sign off sheet on the back.
Grade Calculations:
Grades are calculated using a total points system and percentages. The scores will be given to the students as
the number of points received over the total possible points given for the assignment.
Example: 9 (points correct) / 10 (total points possible) = 0.9 = 90% = A
At the end of the quarter point totals are converted into percentages and the district grading scale is used for
conversion to letter grades.
ProgressBook:
ProgressBook is an online grading system that parents and students can access from home. Parents and students
can access PB to find each night’s homework, the upcoming test or quiz, and any missing assignments. Grades
are generally updated each day. Please use this tool as a way to track your student’s progress in math.
Assignments:
In-Class Assignments: These assignments will generally be worth 10 points. Failing to turn in an in-class
assignment will be worth zero points. Each student will be required to maintain a binder that contains handouts,
completed tests and quizzes and any notes not recorded in their notebook. The binder will be turned in twice a
quarter and considered an in class assignment.
Homework Assignments: These assignments will generally be worth 2 points. Failing to turn in a home work
assignment will be worth zero points. Work turned in late will be worth up to 1 point. Homework will mostly be
graded based on completion. These assignments will then be discussed in class the next day.
Test and Quiz Assignments: Students may or may NOT be told of upcoming quizzes. Tests will be
announced prior to the testing date. Scores will be given using total points. Students may retake TESTS with a
score of a 60% or lower. They will need to complete a review assignment prior to retaking a test. The scores of
the two tests will then be averaged to determine a final score.
.
Late Assignments: Students may turn work in late work until the last week of the grading period. . Late work
that is received one day late will see a 25% grade reduction. Work that is received more than one day late will
receive a reduction of 50%. ***All homework assignments turned in late will receive a score up to 50%.
Absent Assignments: Students are responsible for obtaining their missing assignments during an absence.
Students will be given the number of days absent to make up missing work. If a student is absent from class,
but present at school they are still REQUIRED to turn in homework for that day and obtain any assignments for
that day.
Tardies: Students are allowed 3 tardies to each class. Upon the 4th tardy (and each subsequent tardy), the
student will be assigned a minor referral.
Hall Passes: Students will have 3 hall passes each grading period. These passes can be used to return to a
locker or to use the restroom. Upon the 4th restroom pass (and each subsequent pass), the student will be given a
minor referral.
Supply List:
#2 Pencils w/eraser
3-ring binder (1 inch preferred)
Three dividers for binder
Notebook Paper for binder
Ruler (Traditional and metric)
Texas Instruments TI 30 XIIS Calculator (6th graders are allowed an ODE approved calculator on the OAA)
Textbook:
The textbook we will be using this year has 2 basic components. Two paperback workbooks issued to each
student and an online site. The online site will provide online tutors, extra math practice, and much more! A few
weeks into the first quarter students will be sent home with more information on our text and how to access it
online.
