Background

GP Care is a recognised provider of community based healthcare services including Diagnostics, outpatient and ancillary services to NHS and to a lesser extent, private patients within South

Gloucestershire, Bristol, North Somerset, Gloucestershire and Bath and North East Somerset.

(BaNES). It also offers a number of support services to its shareholder base of 100 practices which comprise over 650 GPs who collectively provide care for approximately 1 million patients. GP Care services are clinically led, developed to meet patient needs and provide cost and efficiency savings to the NHS. It is experiencing rapid growth into new geographical areas and is seeking to recruit to this key post in the North of England.

Job Purpose

As Lead Sonographer for the Blackburn with Darwen area, you will lead a clinical team to deliver high quality services to NHS patients registered with GP Practices in the local community. You will manage local service delivery, planned growth and development of ultrasound services in line with

GP Care’s Business Plan and Commissioner requirements. You will work remotely as part of a larger team and on occasions will be required to spend time at Head Office in Bristol. You will manage the on-going delivery and development of services ensuring they are safe, high quality and efficient.

Key Responsibilities

General

Work as part of the GP Care Clinical team to contribute to the business, supporting the Values, aims and objectives of GP Care;

Represent the organisation positively in all contacts both directly with the public and between health professionals and organisations;

Apply your best endeavours at all times to build service quality, reputation, influence and profitability of the organisation;

Provide support to other GP Care team members on projects where appropriate promoting a culture of innovation, creativity and Learning amongst colleagues.

Specific

To manage the Operational delivery of the local GP Care Ultrasound contract on behalf of

Blackburn with Darwen CCG;

Perform ultrasound examinations and write reports;

Assume responsibility for managing the movement of portable equipment between clinic locations;

Manage patients safely and appropriately;

Provide an ultrasound service of the highest quality;

To carry out periodic audit;

Work with other team members to ensure the smooth functioning of the ultrasound service;

Support the Imaging and Diagnostics Clinical Manager, in the day to day delivery of the ultrasound service;

Accountable for leading and delivering Ultrasound services in Blackburn with Darwen, maximising referrals and optimising service performance through effective resource utilisation;

Support Service Leads with professional advice, to improve service delivery;

Network professionally and keep abreast of changes in national policy or clinical practice that may affect services. Share intelligence across GP Care and implement local changes where appropriate;

Keep up to date with policy and guidance e.g. NICE guidance;

Support specific project work as requested by the Clinical Manager e.g. development of new services, responsibility for a specialist area e.g. (patient involvement, health & safety).

Management of People

Manage the local Ultrasound workforce in in conjunction with the Clinical Co-ordinator and in line with relevant HR policies e.g. maintain accurate records of annual leave, study leave, sickness and absence seeking advice where appropriate from HR;

Promote effective team work, morale and motivate staff through demonstrable personal leadership and staff management;

Be responsible for the organisation and implementation of clinic and staff schedules;

Supervision of relevant clinical and non- clinical staff ensuring mandatory training and appraisals are conducted;

Work with the wider GP Care team to ensure efficient and effective deployment of staff and resources to cover all clinics between 8am to 6pm Mon- Fri;

Contribute to the recruitment and induction of GP Care staff where relevant;

Act as a role model to staff.

Governance

Ensure systems are in place to manage patient records, reports to patients and GPs in accordance with Commissioner’s and Information Governance requirements;

Report and assist in investigation of any incidents, complaints or concerns and undertake risk assessments where appropriate as outlined in GP Care’s Incident Reporting Policy, maintaining a live risk register for the service;

Undertake in conjunction with Service Leads clinical audit activity, ensuring that the audit cycle is completed and clinical audit plans are delivered;

Be aware of the Governance plan for the service, maintain a departmental risk register and contribute to the annual service review.

Communication

Maintain a friendly, helpful, confident and professional manner at all times;

Exercise discretion as to the degree of urgency and confidentiality required;

Promote staff engagement and communication at all levels;

Maintain effective communications and relationships with internal and external stakeholders e.g. patients and carers, commissioners, GP practice staff, Clinical Leads, other GP Care managers and Directors;

Ensure excellent communication with service users and key partners so that their needs and views are taken into account in the planning and monitoring of service delivery.

To perform such other tasks as may reasonably be expected to fulfil the duties for which you are employed.

Confidentiality

In the course of your duties you may have access to confidential material about patients, members of staff or other health service business. On no account must information relating to identifiable patients be divulged to anyone other than authorised persons, for example, medical, nursing or other professional staff, as appropriate, who are concerned directly with the care, diagnosis and /or treatment of the patient. If you are in any doubt whatsoever as to the authority of a person or body asking for information of this nature, you must seek advice from your manager. Similarly, no information of a personal or confidential nature concerning individual members of staff should be divulged to anyone without the proper authority having first been given. Failure to observe these rules will be regarded by GP Care as serious or gross misconduct which could result in disciplinary action being taken against you.

Health and Safety/Security

Staff must be aware of and adhere to the provisions of the Health and Safety at Work Act and to ensure their own safety and the safety of colleagues and patients. Staff must also be aware of the action to be taken in the event of a fire and must attend a fire lecture annually. It is the duty of every employee to work in such a way that accidents to themselves and to others are avoided, and to cooperate in maintaining their place of work in a tidy and safe condition, thereby minimising risk.

Employees will, therefore, refer any matters of concern through their respective managers. Similarly, it is each person’s responsibility to ensure a secure environment and bring any breaches of security to the attention of their manager.

Safeguarding Vulnerable Adults and Children

All members of staff have a duty to safeguard and promote the welfare of vulnerable adults and children in all relevant areas of their work. This includes attendance at relevant training events and being aware of GP Care’s Safeguarding policy and procedures.

Non-Smoking Policy

GP Care operates a Non Smoking Policy which limits smoking in the workplace. Employees are required to observe the rules laid down in the policy and failure to do so may result in disciplinary being taken.

Location

You will be based at a new GP Care office yet to be established in the Blackburn area or elsewhere as reasonably required. The post carries a requirement to travel across all clinics and practices in the

Blackburn with Darwen area.

GP Care Head Office is currently Christchurch Medical Centre, Downend, Bristol, BS16 5SG.
