Business Plan 2014/2015
Last update: 4th February, 2014
Executive Summary
Buckingham Tennis Club (BTC) is set in a delightful location in Chandos Park in the heart of Buckingham. It was
originally set up in 1936 with grass courts, and has been run continuously by volunteers on behalf of the Town
Council since then for the benefit of the community.
BTC has 146 members with just under half of them juniors and current income is about £9,450 pa. The current
finances are very marginal with the club having to pay for all maintenance and also an annual £750 contribution
to the Town Council. Although we currently have £30K in the bank, major investment will be required in the next
2-5 years to pay for re-laying of courts, new fencing and fixing the club-house roof. We can only afford annual
cleaning of the courts when they should be done at least twice and this is causing ongoing falls.
BTC is limited by its location with no room to expand the number of courts or flood-lighting of the third court in
Chandos Park. Buckingham continues to grow as a town and the current facility provides poor provision for a
town of nearly 13,000 people. Some local villages have better facilities for populations of less than 2,000 people.
However, a new committee took on the running of the club during 2013 and we are keen to exploit funding and
political opportunities to achieve the following growth objectives below.
Mission: to get more people, playing more tennis, more often.

Pricing Strategy
Increase fees membership in line with annual inflation.
Provision of Service
See Coaching Services Agreement and Constitution.
Ongoing review of relationship with Buckingham Town Council
Adult Participation (14+ years)
This is an LTA KPI and can be measured via our club membership levels and also usage and number of players
accessing sessions/coaching/club nights.
Regularly Competing Juniors (RCJs)
Part of the new coach’s role should be to send regular competition results to the LTA to ensure our club is
recognised on the RCJ leaderboard. Janice Roach (Tennis Service Assistant for Bucks) can help us with this.
Regularly Competing Adults (RCAs)
Work with LTA to agree how to measure this via local leagues. (this is another KPI for the LTA)
Marketing Strategy
Work in partnership with new coach to promote our club and services to local community
Develop partnerships with local primary schools with initial free taster sessions followed by coaching
Develop partnerships with local companies to sponsor competitions
Develop ongoing relationship with LTA, Buckingham Town Council, AVDC and Bucks County Council
Develop and deliver social media strategy to attract the younger generation.
Communications Strategy
Regular newsletter to the club members
Regular news reports into local paper
Develop intranet

Health and Safety
Ensure BTC is compliant with current and ongoing Health & Safety legislation so that the Committee as guardians
of the club are not liable for any accidents or injury.
