General Meeting March 16, 2015 – 7:00 p.m.
Present: 19 Members and 19 Guests
Business Meeting
Co-president, Anne Walden, welcomed everyone and asked if anyone had good news to
share. Rose Anne Gallante shared that she and Sam became great grandparents on Sat.
Granddaughter Melanie had a little boy, Austin Gilmore. Theresa McArthur told us that
they will be grandparents again – Amanda is expecting. Helen Crooker’s great grandson
is coming to visit again. Anne W. said her grandchildren are coming to visit from New
Zealand in April and Betty Holland added that her grandchildren are coming to visit in
the summer.
Minutes
The minutes of the January 19, 2015 meeting were previously distributed and posted on
the website. They were approved on a motion by: Helen Crooker and seconded by Anne
Cholewka.
Treasurer’s Report
Treasurer, Helen Crooker, reported details of the account balances. She noted that 86
memberships have been received.
Presidents’ Reports
Anne Walden reported on the following:
- Spectrum - Anne received the latest copy and members may borrow it to read.
- The Diocesan Convention - will be held May 29-31 at the Delta in Guelph.
Members are asked to call Anne if they are interested in going.
- Parish Bazaar – four people offered to be on the committee that will coordinate
the bazaar – Helen, Anne W., Anne C, and Theresa Schultz. Morag also
volunteered to be on the committee – and said she will canvass for prizes.
- Sex education – the new curriculum has come out. Anne suggested that it is up to
each individual to decide if they want to write to anyone about it. Our speaker in
April is going to talk about the curriculum. Jane Michael was not able to attend
but sent a message saying that the bishop’s understanding is that Catholic boards
will be allowed to teach it as they see fit. Questions can be answered at next
month’s meeting.
Gloria Nardi-Bell – is ill and sent regrets that she could not attend.
Correspondence – Elaine Herod, Corresponding Secretary, reported – she sent
sympathy cards to the Dwyer family and the Whelan family. Thank you cards were
received from – Deacon Randy, for the gift of money at Christmas – the Dwyer family
for our sympathetic thoughts and prayers. A card will be sent to the O’Grady family.
Convenor Reports
Spiritual - Marguerite Birett – reminded members about the Lenten retreat noted in our
bulletin. Fr. Irek Koziak, a Pallotine father, will facilitate. See the insert from bulletin.
Jenny Dobrec approached Marguerite about Devine Mercy Sunday on April 12. She
wants the CWL to provide baking but Marguerite declined as we had previously decided
that we are not able to provide baking for every event that other groups are hosting.
Marguerite has information about the event for anyone interested in attending.
Membership – Betty Holland – confirmed membership numbers that Helen provided.
Education – Jane Michael injured her foot and sent regrets that she is unable to attend.
Health - Pearly Chan – was absent.
Community Life - Morag Wilson - had nothing to report at this time
Other Business
Bazaar – other members expressed interest in helping the committee with bazaar work.
We will let them know which weekend is available to have the bazaar as soon as
confirmation is received from the office.
Patty Huschilt – suggested that we make gift baskets for the Penny Sale with items that
people may have received as gifts but they are not using and could donate. We could get
together one night and put baskets together.
Programming plans include:
April 20 – Terri Durham speaking about religious curriculum in the schools
May – May Crowning
June 15 – annual Pot Luck dinner

The meeting was adjourned on a motion by Rose Anne Gallante.
Following the business meeting the Manning Irish Dancers joined us and provided great
entertainment performing a selection of nine traditional Irish dances. Their costumes are
hand made with designs taken from the Book of Kells in Dublin.
