Minutes of the LIANZA Otago/Southland Region Committee Meeting, held 3 :00pm Thursday 24th October 2012, Dunningham Room, 4th Floor Dunedin Public Libraries. Present: Mark Hughes, Lorraine Johnston, Anne Buck, Linda Geddes, Lynda Hodge, Allison Brown, Dene McDonald, Helen Brownlie Apologies: Paul Barton, Philip van Zijl, Adele Hewlett (Moved Lorraine Johnston and carried). Minutes of 19 September 2012 accepted with correction to John Timmins name. Moved Anne Buck, seconded Lynda Hodge and carried. Business arising from minutes 19th September 2012 Anne followed up on link to sponsorship form on LIANZA website and sent it to Catherine Barriga. Linda booked the Dunningham Room for next meeting. Committee members updated biography details and sent to Helen. Blog will be up in November. Lorraine invited Keith Scott to present at Open Lecture. Dene booked the laptop for 24 October. Lorraine organized for the lift to be opened 24October. Mark purchased vouchers for presenters. Philip notified Allison of optimum bar camp dates. Linda added Journal Club to standing agenda. Correspondence: Marianne Foster offered to host the LA Day in Invercargill. Kathy Aloniu asked to present a careers development proposal at the next committee meeting. Lorraine received the Southlib Meeting Schedule. Ongoing communication between Ali Smith (LIANZA) and Lorraine Johnston regarding dates of Heather Lamond’s visit to the region in early 2013. Financial Report: September 2012: Opening Balance $2,662.10, Closing Balance $2,672.67 with reimbursements to Mark Hughes and Allison Brown to be reflected next month. Moved: Mark Hughes, seconded Helen Brownlie, carried. Committee agreed to grant $500 towards Catherine Barriga's attendance at the Rare Books School in Dunedin, Jan/Feb 2013. Moved: Mark Hughes, seconded Anne Buck, carried. Councilor’s Report: 2013 National Year of Reading 'Word Up' 27 November 2012 National Library reopening with new name. Working Groups set up by LIANZA have submitted preliminary findings - Future Skills, Emerging Leaders, Brand Libraries, all with a view to encouraging membership and extending professional development. The ‘Keep Libraries Free Campaign is in the news. The question was asked ‘What can Otago/Southland do to build momentum? The Otago/Southland region will be asked to review LIANZA’s policy on the retention of SIG/Regional records. Councillors now have a Job Description and are required to develop goals and objectives each year. Palmerston North Conference attracted 400 delegates and the Keynote speakers were well received. Next year’s conference is in Hamilton and in Auckland in 2014. LIBROS Action: Helen to publish a new issue tomorrow.
