Talking Points Thank you for helping us spread the word and encouraging your network of businesses and organizations to take the Recycling@Work pledge. We hope the following talking points are helpful in sharing the program with others. Collectively businesses and organizations can make a significant impact on our national recycling rate by increasing recycling in the workplace. EPA estimates that as much as 45 percent of the 250 million tons of municipal waste generated annually is generated at workplaces. The overall goal of Recycling@Work (www.recyclingatwork.org) is to increase recycling in workplace settings by inviting businesses, government agencies, colleges and universities, schools, hospitals and other institutions to take the Recycling@Work pledge. Businesses and organizations who take the pledge commit to increasing their recycling rate by 10 percent over a two-year period of common workplace recyclables such as (e.g. paper, cardboard, beverage containers, batteries, electronics, ink cartridges, food waste (optional); Recycling@Work pledge is a joint Clinton Global Initiative commitment between KAB and Alcoa Foundation, one of the sponsors of the program, to increase U.S. recycling rates. The program is also sponsored by Microsoft and Pepsico and is guided by a hand-picked advisory council, comprised of government officials, sustainability experts and nonprof it partners of KAB. To date, more than 585 businesses and organizations have taken the Recycling@Work pledge. Recycling@Work makes good business sense. Recycling is an easy way to reduce your environmental impact. By recycling more, your business or organization can realize potential cost savings from reduced disposal costs and increased revenue generated from recycling.
