Star Struck 2015: Amazing. Star Struck Week! I have not received the rehearsal schedules for the Wednesday and Thursday of Star Struck Show Week. I have used the schedule from last year and if there are any changes I will let you know. I appreciate it may be difficult but I will need the attached permission note returned to school by this Friday (5th June), as all transport needs to be arranged before the long weekend. Our students will need to attend rehearsals at the Newcastle Entertainment Centre on Wednesday 10th June and Thursday 11th June, as well as attend the performances on Friday 12th June (matinee and evening) and Saturday 13th June (matinee and evening). As most of you know this is an enormous week for the students. Please read all of the information carefully. If there are any questions please don’t hesitate to contact me. Throughout the week, our ‘Hinton Public School’ sign will be used at pickup and drop off times and we will be meeting at the ‘Big Tree’ for all of these times. During Show week, students need to make sure that absolutely everything has their name written on it (even socks)! There are thousands of children at the rehearsals and performances and things are easily lost and mixed up. I will ensure students’ names are on all parts of the costumes, but parents need to ensure anything students wear or bring to Star Struck is labelled (including shoes, as they will be changing out of them). Students may bring electronic games and toys to the rehearsals and performances, however, please note that it is students’ responsibility to look after these things. It is possible that they could be lost or stolen. Students can bring these at their own risk. Security: Parents (and any other persons) are not allowed in the Holding Area in the Hall of Industry at ANY time during Show Week. You must have a security pass to gain access to this area (which only teachers have). Pick up and drop off must then occur at our meeting place. Please do not try to enter this area as security is extremely tight. Therefore, it is crucial that all students arrive on time to rehearsals and performances as we are running to a strict schedule and cannot wait for latecomers. On Thursday (dress rehearsal) we will gain access to the marquee and our holding area. Students will be distributed with a wrist band that they must wear to gain access to the holding area and Entertainment Centre. The students must return their wrist band to me before they go home each day. Dress: For the rehearsals on Wednesday and Thursday, as well as the matinee performance on Friday I would ask that all students wear FULL school sports uniform (pants, jacket, school shirt, joggers). However, Star Struck has asked that students have their Star Struck T-shirts with them at the rehearsals on Wednesday and Thursday. They can change into them when they are there and at appropriate times (it is very difficult to see the students when they are in their Star Struck shirts all the time). Please ensure these have students’ names in them. Students do not need to wear school uniform to other performances. However, it is always extremely cold and often wet at the performances so please ensure your child is dressed warmly and appropriately. Food: Please ensure students have lots to eat and drink at all times, especially on the rehearsal days. Canteen facilities will be available throughout the week but due to our scheduled times (especially on rehearsal days) there may be points during the day when students need to eat quickly in between our segments and will be unable to line up at the canteen so please do not rely completely on this for food throughout the day. Costumes: I will bring the costumes and storage boxes to the Dress Rehearsal and they will stay in the Hall of Industry (in our marquee) until the end of Star Struck (students can then take them home). Each student has a storage box for their shoes, tights, flashing bracelet, tail and horns. All students need to bring their shoes and tights to school by Friday 5th June. For each performance, and on the day of the dress rehearsal, ALL students need to be wearing black coloured underwear with black scungees worn over the top during performances. Girls also need to ensure they wear a black coloured sports bra or crop top to each performance, so they won’t be seen through their costume and to make changing easier. Make up: Students do not need to wear make up for our segment. Make up will not be allowed in our marquee and students will not be allowed to put it on. Hair: Students need to wear their hair in a high bun. Hair spray and other aerosols are not permitted at Star Struck (as it can induce asthma attacks) so any hair product needs to be applied before arriving for performances. Supervision: I will be supervising the students at all times during rehearsals and performances. I will be attending the rehearsals on Wednesday 12th June and Thursday 13th June. Mrs. Morris will assist with supervision during the Friday matinee and teachers will assist with all other performances. No PARENTS will be permitted in the Entertainment Centre during rehearsals. Photos: Our group of students will be having their photo taken by the official photographers at the dress rehearsal on Thursday 11th June. These photos go on display in the Entertainment Centre during the performances and will be available for you to purchase if you wish. Transport: Once again, parents need to provide transport for students to and from each event. Please inform me of how your child will be getting to EACH performance on the permission note. Just a reminder that a copy of licences and registration are required prior to the day for any parent transporting a child other than their own (unless this has already been given at a previous occasion). This is a legal requirement so please try to make sure this is done. STUDENTS CAN STAY AT THE ENTERTAINMENT CENTRE BETWEEN SATURDAY MATINEE AND SATURDAY EVENING PERFORMANCES BUT NOT FRIDAY. If your child will be staying between shows on Saturday, please indicate on the note attached. Parking/Pick Up and Drop Off: I have received the following information directly from the Star Struck Office regarding private vehicles: 1. Parents and patrons coming to watch the performances are encouraged to park in the Newcastle Showground. An $8 fee will apply. 2. Entry to Newcastle Showground is available from Griffiths Road only. 3. There will be NO parking in Brown Road for any vehicles during performances. It will be staffed by Newcastle Entertainment Centre traffic controllers, security and Waratah Police. 4. Parents wishing to drop off performers before the shows will be allowed into Brown Road. A brief stand will be allowed but parents will not be allowed to leave their vehicles unattended. 5. Parents staying for rehearsals and performances must use the Showground Car Park area via Griffiths Road entrance to park on site. An $8 per vehicle fee will be charged. Alternative parking areas have NOT been arranged so the only secure areas during the performances are in the Showground. 6. Parents wishing to pick up performers after the shows will NOT be allowed into Brown Road. They must find alternative parking in the PCYC area or District Park, Curley Road, and proceed on foot to the Newcastle Entertainment Centre to collect their children. Thus no access for light vehicles in Brown Road during crucial pick up and drop off times. The following is information for each rehearsal and performance: Rehearsal: Wednesday 10th June 2015 Students need to arrive at the Newcastle Entertainment Centre at 11 am. Students can be picked up at approximately 2:30pm (may run over time) from our meeting place. Students need to be in full school uniform. Rehearsal: Thursday 11th June 2015 This will be our biggest day. This is the technical and dress rehearsals. Students need to arrive at the Newcastle Entertainment Centre at 7:55am. Our area is very small so please don’t bring too much. Everything needs to be labelled. The day will conclude at 5:30pm after a full dress rehearsal. Please allow time for students to change, so pick up time will be from this time (allowing time for students to change). Performance: Matinee Friday 12th June 2015 This is the first performance. The performance concludes at approx. 1:30pm so pick up will be from this time (allowing time for students to change). Please note: There will be no supervision at the Entertainment Centre or by Hinton P.S. staff between the Friday matinee and evening performances so all students need to be picked up from the event. The performance concludes at 10pm so pick up will be from this time (allowing time for students to change). The performance concludes at 5:00pm so pick up will be from this time (allowing time for students to change). However, supervision will be available between the Saturday Matinee and Evening Performances at the Newcastle Entertainment Centre. If you wish for your child to remain at the Centre between performances, please indicate on the note attached. Performance Evening Saturday 13th June 2015 The performance begins at 7pm so students need to arrive at the meeting place by 6:30pm. The performance concludes at 10pm so pick up will be from this time (allowing time for students to change). Students will be given their costumes to be taken home after this event. Please return the permission note on the next page ASAP (by Friday 6th June). I will need to know your transportation arrangements at this time as well. REMEMBER THAT TRAFFIC IS HEAVY AROUND THE ENTERTAINMENT CENTRE DURING STAR STRUCK. PLEASE ARRANGE TO BE EARLY FOR ALL DROP OFF AND PICK UP TIMES. Just a reminder that Star Struck costume accounts must also be settled by this Friday (5th June). Thank you for all your help and patience during this Star Struck experience.
