Personality Inventory Essay
According to the Personality Inventory, my results were ISTJ. When broken down into
the four domains, I am considered introverted, sensing, thinking, and judging. The Personality
Type Descriptor further categorizes me as “the Duty Fulfiller”. After reading this descriptor, I
would agree with the label that is put on my personality. I believe that these tests and results are
not the tell-all, end-all of someone’s personality, but it is helpful to see certain patterns of
thinking. There are certain traits of an ISTJ that will help me with my clinical experiences and a
few qualities that may pose a problem when I am in the clinic.
ISTJs tend to make sure complete a task no matter how tough or long it may take. ISTJs
are hard workers and will not stop until the job is done. I think this will help me when I practice
in the clinic because there are bound to be tough patients and obstacles with patient’s recovery
along the way. These obstacles will not be a problem, and I will be able to think out a logical
way to treat the patient in the best possible way. Along this same line, ISTJs are very reliable
and can be counted on the complete any and all tasks given to us. ISTJs are considered “good
citizens” and will do anything it takes to help people. My main reason for becoming a physical
therapist is to help people recover and achieve whatever their goal may be. This will help me in
the clinic because I will be practicing PT for the right reasons and feel great joy in seeing the
recovery process of patients.
ISTJs believe it is very important to follow the rules and “doing everything by the book”.
This could create a problem in the clinic because there are many cases where a patient will be a
special case and cannot be treated the same fashion as other patients. It is good to know this and
realize that I must be open other treatment options and be sure to use clinical judgment instead of
always using the same procedure. Another possible issue for ISTJs is dealing with stress in the
clinic. ISTJs tend to blame themselves for failures and stop thinking logically about the
situation. It’s important for me to remember that there are sure to be problems with treatments
and to stop and think the situation through.
I believe that I communicate well with most people and rarely have trouble interacting
with new people. That being said, if my clinical instructor has different personality traits than I
do, I think it would be a good idea for me to explain my rationale for treatment out loud. As an
introvert, I tend to keep my thoughts to myself. To make sure that my clinical instructor and I
are on the same page, I think it would be best to talk everything out and be open to his or her
ideas. I am glad that I took this test to see the possible positives and negatives of my personality
character and how it could translate in the clinic.
