Dear Students and Parents,
We are so pleased to be a Cambridge Centre, approved by Cambridge International
Examinations on November 22, 2012, to offer an internationally recognized learning option to
our students and families. The Cambridge Advanced International Certificate of Education
(AICE) Program and the IGCSE (Pre-AICE) Program are now available at Overton High School.
The Cambridge curriculum, taught in over 160 countries worldwide, emphasizes higher-order
thinking skills, oral skills, writing skills, problem solving, teamwork, and investigative skills.
We welcome your interest in the Cambridge Program. Success in the AICE or Pre-AICE Program
depends on commitment to the program requirements, as outlined on the following page. A
completed application must be submitted by January 23, 2015, to be considered for admission.
This applies only to families zoned to Overton. Please note that the essay must be 500 words
and handwritten unless there are special circumstances that require you to use a computer or
tablet for your work. After the January deadline, applicants will be allowed to take Cambridge
classes as available. You may email your completed application to Nita.Harville@mnps.org.

Program Requirements:
1. Cambridge students are expected to have high academic standards, be selfmotivated, and have good study habits.
2. Cambridge students must demonstrate a commitment to succeed in this rigorous
program.
3. Cambridge students must behave honorably and ethically at all times.
4. Cambridge students must take the assessment for their coursework at the end of the
school year. This assessment will be scheduled during the month of May or June.

Essay
All writing may be done in pencil or pen; cursive or print will be accepted. Please
choose from one of the essay questions listed below. The essay chosen should be
a minimum of 500 words in length. Candidates may attach additional pages to this
