2014-15 Linked Learning Professional Development Calendar of Events – Experiential Site Visits 2014-15 Experiential Site Visits Some of the more advanced Linked Learning districts in the state have agreed to host Experiential Site Visits for teams who are eager to engage with and learn from Linked Learning students, teachers, administrators, and partners. We recommend that a leadership team (of 515 district, school site, and community leaders) from each district participate in at least two site visits. They are available on a first-come, first-served basis, and each has a limit of 60 participants. Each site visit is designed to meet a common set of outcomes. Below, you will find information about the host district, date/time, visit description, and a link to the registration page. Outcomes: Experiential Site Visits are intended to meet the following outcomes for participants: Understanding of the various features of a mature Linked Learning pathway and how, by design, they fit together as a whole to provide a coherent 4-year program of study for students Understanding of how interdisciplinary, real-world projects and work-based learning experiences combine to change the nature of learning for pathway students and help them to meet pathway- and district-level student learning outcomes Clear sense of why strong site and district leadership, a well-designed district infrastructure, and intentional alignment of resources and initiatives are necessary to ensure the conditions for effective pathway implementation and sustainability Action steps for incorporating the team's collective learning into plans for implementing a system of Linked Learning pathways Strand 2: Experiential Site Visits Date Oct 20, 2014 9:00 AM – 2:00 PM Host Sacramento City USD Location Arthur A. During the Experiential Site Visit, participants will engage with and learn from pathway teachers, site and district adminis trators, and community/business partners about the strategies for developing, supporting, and sustaining high quality pathways. Participants will interact with HPHS students as they participate in an int egrated thematic project. Finally, participants will have a chance to network with colleagues from other districts and spend time with their own district team members to reflect on their learning and develop next steps. Dec 2, 2014 8:30 AM – 3:00 PM Sacramento City USD The MET Sacramento High School 810 V Street Sacramento, CA 95818 The MET Sacramento High School Registration link Description: The MET Sacramento High School is a Big Picture School that is also a certified Linked Learning Pathway. At the experiential site visit, participants will: 1) Receive an overview of the Met Sacramento, including schedules, internship processes, and adviso ry structure. 2) Learn how internships, college classes, community service, cultural events, and other curriculum provide opportunities for students to explore their interests and gain experiential, as well as academic knowledge outside and inside classroom walls. 3) See students in action at internship sites. 4) Speak with various stakeholders, including teachers/advisors, mentor s from internship sites and advisory board members. They will learn about how PUSD uses the district’s Graduate Profile to shape the pathways’ Pathway Out comes, Integrated Projects and Work-Based Learning experiences. Participants will engage directly with pathway teachers, counselors and students to discuss all aspects of the Linked Learning experience through the lens of the Career theme. Dec 11, 2014 Sacramento City USD 8:30 AM – 3:00 PM Sacramento New Technology High School 1400 Dickson Street Sacramento, CA 95822 Sacramento New Technology High School Registration link Description: New Tech, a School of Design Thinking, is one of SCUSD's five small high schools. It is also one of the first two Linked Learning Certified Pathways in SCUSD. It implements a project-based curriculum combined with co-teaching and technology to support students to be both college and career ready. Participants will engage directly with pathway students and their interdisciplinary projects and teachers as well as site and district administrators. Jan 21, 2015 8:30 AM – 2:30 PM Sacramento City USD George Washington Carver School of the Arts and Science 10101 Systems Pkwy Sacramento, CA 95827 Registration link Description: George Washington Carver is the first Woldorf inspired high school in Cal ifornia implementing Linked Learning approach. Carver is a Social and Environmental Justice Pathway (SaEJ), and student’s participant in CTE and WBL similar to that of Big Picture Schools. It is one of SCUSD's five small high schools. During the visit, participants will observe students engaging in main lessons, integrated projects and defense of learning.
