A Note of Thanks

Dear Fr. Santos, We thank you and all your kind parishioners for supporting the Mother of Life Center with the pro-life Rose

Sale this fall. The donations that we received from this major fund raiser go a long way to help our ministry assist many young mothers and fathers each year. Our message to everyone who comes through our doors is a message of support and the importance of life. The vast majority of our clients over the years have expressed their appreciation for the counseling, guidance and practical assistance they received from this Center.

Our work continues because of the generous assistance from our active pro-life friends like you. May our Lord and His Holy

Mother bless you with God’s eternal peace.

Sincerely, Marlo Itteilag, Director of Counseling

The Greatest Treasure

Despite the great number of his religious, Bonaventure made sure that all of them could approach him. His charity for his brothers was limitless. A lay Brother, Egide, who had an admirable simplicity, expressed his worry:

“When I think about the insights that Doctors like you receive from heaven, I wonder, how can an ignoramus like myself be saved?” Bonaventure replied, “If God granted a man no other talent than the grace to love Him, that would be enough and would be a great treasure.” – “Are you saying that an illiterate man can love the Lord more than a great genius?” – “Of course, Brother Egide, not only as much, but much more. One sees very simple old women who, on this fundamental point, surpass the greatest theologians.” With these words, the Brother, transported by joy, ran out onto the road and began to shout, “Come, simple and unlettered men, come good women, all of you come to love Our Lord. You can love Him as much and even than Father Bonaventure and the most clever theologians!” – from the newsletter of the Abbey of Saint-Joseph de Clairval, 21150 Flavigny-sur-

Black Catholic History Month

A special commemoration of the continuing contribution throughout history of Catholics of African origin will be made at the 9:00

AM Mass on Sunday the 29 th of November. This is also the First Sunday of Advent and the beginning of the new Church year.

Holy Name Continues to Foster Vocations

As you are able to see from the posters at the entrance of the

Church and Chapel one of the members of our parish, Louis Edet is now a seminarian for the Diocese of Providence. Louis received a Bachelor of

Philosophy from the National Missionary Seminary of St. Paul in

Gwagwalada-Abuja, Nigeria. Though originally from Nigeria where he studied to be a missionary priest, Edet came to the Diocese of Providence last year and decided to stay and pursue a vocation as a diocesan priest. “I took off time to discover if I wanted to continue [to study to be a missionary priest],” he said. “I came here and they’ve been welcoming.”

Edet is pursuing a masters of theology at Providence College, where he says the religious community has been hospitable and helped reignite his passion for the priestly vocation. He named Father Lazarus

Onuh, chaplain of the African Catholic Community in residence at the

Church of the Holy Name of Jesus, Providence, as a source of support in his transition to the Diocese of Providence.

Let us all continue to keep Louis in our prayers as he continues to deepen his knowledge of God’s will for him. As we have all experienced in our parish – prayer matters and God does answer.

A trip to Portugal

As you all know I went to visit my classmates and friends in Portugal. By God’s grace I was also able to stop in Fatima and pray for your intentions at the Capelinha of the Apparitions. The prayer requests that had been given to me a couple of years ago traveled with me again. This time they were left to be burned in the same place where the candles of so many hundreds of thousands of pilgrims are offered to our Blessed Mother. Thank you for your prayers for my journey and safe return.
