The audience of proud relatives practically overflowed the Roby Elementary School gymnasium. “This is a great problem to have,” said District Safe Schools Coordinator Sarah Hardin. “Thank you for your support of these students’ efforts.” The program included the history of Red Ribbon and Safe Schools Week by DARE Officer Becky Hill; recognition of the Very Important Partners (VIPs) who can be seen on posters across the county; a special video performance of Scream created by North Bullitt High School students; and recognition of school level and district level winners. Several students were selected to read their Red Ribbon essays. They were Marlene Michel of Bullitt East High School, Rachel Lagermann of Old Mill Elementary School and Albany Thompson of Roby Elementary School. The Hebron Middle School choir performed Can You Hear under the direction of music teacher Julia McKay. Mt. Washington Middle School students were showcased in two special video performances, Respect Yourself, Be Drug Free and You’re Not Alone. DARE Officers and School Resource Officers were recognized for their work. DARE officers include Bullitt County Sheriff Deputy Bruce Rucker, Shepherdsville Police Officer Ken Bernardi and Dave Smith, and Mt. Washington Police Officers Scott Barrow and Brian Denton.
