They particularly like the games they have played. The children have enjoyed learning through games and also the traditional way of adding and subtracting. The favourite of the children this term has been taking part in a shape hunt around the Hub. All the children thoroughly enjoyed this activity which helped to reinforce their knowledge of the properties of 3D shape. Literacy This term all the reading groups will continue to build confidence in reading aloud and tackling unfamiliar words. We will also be looking at how to find information from the stories we have read which will help answer set questions. This helps them develop understanding of what they have read. In writing we will continue to build on our knowledge about VCOP and work on sentence development using this. We will continue to build on our knowledge about phonics, covering blends and some of the common words. The spelling sounds will be covered over two week blocks to allow the children to consolidate what they have learned. Reflection The children are enthusiastic about their reading and the reading activities. They are developing more confidence in having a go at reading unfamiliar words. They have been very good at retelling the story they have read. This term the children have been concentrating on developing vocabulary for writing through the writing of poems. They obviously enjoyed these activities as their final copies of the poems have been fantastic! The children have continued to develop their blend knowledge in spelling and particularly enjoy the messy or practical activities to learn these words. Health and Wellbeing This term we are concentrating on looking at emotions and how different emotions make us feel. We are looking at friendships and how they make us feel and what we can do when they don't work. Controlling our emotions and the strategies to help us cope when they go wrong, will also be explored. Gross motors will also be concentrating on how to control our body movements. This term we will be moving in different directions in a variety of different ways. (Changing directions and following different paths in the gym while bouncing a ball or balancing a bean bag are some examples) Reflection The children continued to learn about strategies to control their emotions and are trying to use these especially in the playground. The have used different approaches in learning about these through stories or scenarios and re-enacting. They tend to enjoy the stories more and are a little shy with the acting! We have continued to work on balance in gross motor and coordination with ball skills. We even enjoyed playing indoor bowling! (They did get a little competitive!) Other News Some of our children will be learning about Katie Morag and her island life. This is focussing on similarities and differences between city and island life. Our hub children will also be involved in the Christmas shows and activities about Christmas. Reflection The children who were learning about Katie Morag thoroughly enjoyed the stories and made an amazing map of Katie Morag’s island. The children readily took part in the Christmas shows. We have also enjoyed playing our glockenspiels to the parents in a little concert on the 16th December. They worked and concentrated extremely hard for each show and concert. Have a super holiday everyone! Rest well and be prepared for lots of new exciting adventures next term! Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
