Engineering Manager Operations – Appalachian Region This is a Full-Time, Exempt position. Background: Northwest Hardwoods is the premier Hardwood Lumber producer in the industry serving the furniture, cabinet, moulding and millwork segments worldwide. We operate manufacturing operations throughout the United States. We are in search for an Engineering Manager to further drive the growth of this segment within the business. Position Summary: Oversee the development and implementation of manufacturing process changes and equipment installation to improve and repair operations. Ensures engineering function and other manufacturing departments work together cohesively and is responsible for the development of equipment to aid in the manufacturing process. Leads and directs the work of assigned manufacturing engineers, project engineers, manufacturing employees and contractors. Key Functions: Analyze and design efficient manufacturing processes using effective systems and simulation tools to optimize, use of space, equipment, material and personnel. Assist in developing plant layout in planning rearrangement of facilities, equipment and operations for better utilization of space. Work closely with research and development, quality assurance and maintenance personnel to prevent problems with products and tooling/fixtures. Ensure all manufacturing safety regulatory policies and procedures are implemented and maintained at all times. Stay informed concerning new manufacturing technologies and equipment in order to manufacture and reduce cost through efficiencies. Support all current and new product introductions with physical equipment installation and process changes where required. Ensure vendors/subcontractors are manufacturing products according to product specifications. Determine and eliminate root causes and diminish occurrences in the manufacturing process. Ensure that all manufacturing equipment specifications are developed and proven prior to purchasing equipment. Able to assist in reducing cost through re-engineering processes. Assist in the assessment of vendor/subcontractor evaluation for consideration. Responsible for training vendors/subcontractors on new product launches to meet target date. All other duties, as assigned. QUALIFICATIONS/OTHER REQUIREMENTS: • Bachelors Degree in Mechanical Engineering. • 7-10 years progressive experience in Manufacturing Engineering. • Proven track record of reducing costs through processes and efficiencies • Experience in facility design and modifications • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills • Hands-on, team oriented and committed to business improvement processes • Process-oriented mentality, strong problem solving capabilities • Strong knowledge in writing bid specifications • Strong project management skills • Strong management skills • Risk assessment capability of product, processes and suppliers • Technical training and presentation skills • Ability to manage multiple priorities • Computer literacy: Basic skills with MS Word and Excel; Strong CAD proficiency Candidates who meet these qualifications will be considered further.
