The activities are a way to celebrate the hard work of these students, and we encourage all students to attend. On Monday, June 24th, students will go rollerskating/rollerblading at Lloyd’s Roller Rink. On this day, students will report to their homeroom in the morning. At 8:15, we will leave as a group and WALK to Lloyd’s on McLeod Trail. We have done this walk many times in the past and it takes about 25 minutes. Students must dress appropriately for the weather, as we will walk rain or shine. Students should wear sunscreen and bring a hat if it is a bright, sunny day. On this day, students should bring a water bottle and snack that does not require a microwave, as they will NOT be able to purchase food from the concession. We will skate from 9-11 then walk back to the school where students will report back to their homeroom for early 12:15 dismissal. The cost for the trip includes the rental of rollerskates, but students can bring their own rollerskates or rollerblades from home if they wish. PLEASE NOTE: If students wish to rent rollerblades, instead of the rollerskates, it is an extra dollar and they should bring this exact change with them. It will be first come, first served for rollerblades versus the skates. Electronics should be left at home, as cell phones and music are not allowed on the rink. In order to participate, students MUST wear a helmet. A bike helmet would be sufficient for this activity. Please let the homeroom teacher know immediately if your child does not own a helmet. On Tuesday, June 25th, students will be bussed to the Southland Leisure Centre for a morning of swimming. To attend this trip, the attached “Swimming Ability Form” must be completed by a parent. For this activity, students must bring swim wear, a towel, and plastic bag for their wet swimming suit. Lockers cost $0.25, and each time they are opened, they will require another quarter to lock; as students are encouraged to lock up their items, they should bring some quarters with them. Each year we lose items due to students not putting items in a locked locker. As with the day before, students will report to homeroom that morning. We will leave on busses and swim from 9-11:30, and return to school and homerooms in time for the early 12:15 dismissal. As swimming is a busy activity, students should bring a healthy snack that does not require the use of a microwave so they can eat it before or after the pool. Students will NOT be able to purchase items from the vending machines or concession at the pool, so please ensure they have packed enough food. Students are strongly encouraged to leave valuables, such as electronics, at home. On Wednesday, June 26th , students will be participating in outdoor activities at the school. The day will consist of fun events and a BBQ lunch. Students should dress appropriately for the weather and bring a hat, sunscreen, and bug spray as we will be outside the entire morning. In case of bad weather, there will be a contingency theatre activity but the BBQ will still continue. This is the last day grade five/six students attend this school year. The cost for the three days, including admission and bussing to venues and the BBQ lunch, is $25 per student (plus an additional dollar if the student wishes to rent rollerblades, but that is brought the day of the event). If the cost of the activities is a concern to you, please contact Meagan Lundgren at 403-777-7900, ext. 3237, to make arrangements as no student will be left out due to financial constraints. Please read, print, complete, and sign the THREE attached forms and have your child return them to his/her homeroom teacher, along with $25 in cash or cheque payable to Fairview School by June 10th. Late forms will not be accepted. Sincerely, The Grade Five/Six Homeroom Teachers
