Master Teacher Support Protocols
Peer-to-Peer Observation
Peer-to-Peer Observation occurs when the assigned teacher is observed by
a support-giver peer. Before initiating peer-to-peer observation, establish a
focus for the observation. (Indicator level or descriptor level focus.)
1. Hold a pre-conference with the assigned teacher stating that
he or she will be observed and will participate in a postobservation coaching conference to accelerate growth in his or
her practice. Explain the details below and the timeline.
2. During the agreed upon time, observe the assigned teacher's
classroom to complete the observation.
3. Schedule a post-observation conversation to establish which
portion of the lesson the assigned teacher thought was
effective and explore strategies that could be implemented to
further improve practice around a specific indicator in the
assigned teacher’s classroom. Utilize Teach like a Champion
strategies aligned to TEM Observation indicators and Practice
Perfect systems, where possible.
4. Create short-term actionable next steps based on the
reinforcement and refinement areas.
5. During the post-observation conversation, complete
the Reflective Practice Self-Reflection Guide.
6. Electronically submit the form to principal or PIT crew
member, as guided.
Reflective Practice
One way to use Reflective Practice is to video observation and conduct a
video-enhanced post-observation. Before initiating this type reflective
practice, establish day and time of the capture and establish focus for
viewing the capture. (Indicator level or descriptor level focus.)
1. Ensure the iPad is available on the established day/time and that the
assigned teacher knows how to login, capture, and upload to
Teachscape.
2. Ensure the teacher shares the capture within the Teachscape
platform. In this way, you may view the capture in advance of the
post-conference.
3. Schedule a time to view the capture together. Use the coaching
conversation protocols to identify an area of reinforcement and
refinement. Explore strategies that could be implemented to further
improve practice around a specific indicator in the assigned teacher’s
classroom. Utilize Teach like a Champion strategies aligned to TEM
Observation indicators and Practice Perfect systems, where possible.
4. Create short-term actionable next steps based on the reinforcement
and refinement areas.
5. During the post-observation conversation, complete the Reflective
Practice Self-Reflection Guide.
6. Electronically submit the form to principal or PIT crew member, as
guided.
Targeted Professional Development (PD)
Targeted Professional Development means the assigned teacher is required
to complete Professional Development. This protocol involves a coaching
follow-up conversation to boost application of newly acquired skills.
1. Schedule a pre-conference with the assigned teacher stating that he
or she will complete Targeted Professional Development to
accelerate growth in the targeted area. Ensure the assigned teacher
knows the timeline for completing Targeted Professional
development. Ensure the assigned teacher knows how to launch
PD360 from MyLearningPlan.
2. Follow up with the assigned teacher to verify that the Targeted
Professional Development has been completed and discuss learning
from the Targeted Professional Development. Determine what the
assigned teacher found effective about the PD and which specific
time-bound strategies could be implemented in the assigned
teacher’s classroom.
3. Encourage the teacher to engage in Reflective Practice to capture the
new strategy in action.
4. View the capture and reflect on the degree to which the objectives of
implementing the new strategy have been achieved. During the postobservation conversation, complete the Reflective Practice Self-
Reflection Guide.
5. Electronically submit the form to principal or PIT crew member, as
guided.
6. Determine next steps, establish time-line, and follow-up with
teacher.
