Testing Reminder

This is a reminder that your child will be taking the Preliminary SAT
(PSAT) on Wednesday, October 14, 2015. The PSAT is given at no
cost to all 10th and 11th grade students in Charlotte-Mecklenburg
Schools.
The PSAT consists of critical reading, mathematics, and writing
sections, and has the same formats, directions, sample questions,
and question types as the Scholastic Assessment Test (SAT), which
many students take as a college entrance examination. The PSAT
provides excellent preparation for taking the SAT; in addition, schools
use the results to aid instructional and program planning.
Please make every effort to have your child at school and on time the
day of testing. We will begin testing promptly after the tardy bell
sounds. On test day, your child should bring:
 Two (2)---No. 2 pencils
 Student ID number
 An acceptable calculator (for a list of acceptable
calculators please see the back)
 Email address (optional)
In preparation for test day, please make sure your child has a good
night’s rest and eats a nutritious breakfast---(either at home or at

PSAT ACCEPTABLE CALCULATORS LIST
Students should be familiar with the operation of their calculators and know when
the calculator can be used effectively. All questions on the Math Test – problems
can be solved without a calculator; however, using a calculator on some
questions may be helpful to students.
On the Math Test – Calculator portion, all scientific calculators are permitted. A
four-function calculator is acceptable but not recommended.
