Introduction
The Fraternity & Sorority Community at Stony Brook University created the Five Star Standards Program as an
accreditation and recognition program for the community. The program is designed to establish minimum performance
standards that fraternities and sororities must meet to maintain campus recognition while serving as an opportunity for
organizations to be recognized for exemplary performance. The intent of the Five Star Standards Program is to help
fraternities and sororities document their activities and successes while providing the University with information to
continue and enhance the support provided for fraternities and sororities.
At the conclusion of the academic year each recognized organization will complete a self-evaluation and submit it to the
Fraternity and Sorority Life office for scoring. The chapter will be notified of their score prior to the beginning of the next
academic year. Star standings remain for the entire following academic year unless a chapter is placed on University or
IFSC Judicial Sanction or is eligible for a re-evaluation mid-year. Chapters are expected to strive towards 5 Star Standing
and MUST achieve a 3 Star Standing to remain in good standing with the University.
Instructions
1. Choose a member who will be in charge of maintaining your Five Star Standards Program Self-Evaluation for
the year. It is wise to have ONE individual in charge of your packet for the year. This person should be organized,
responsible, and knowledgeable of chapter activities. It is suggested that this individual be an executive board
member.
2. Read through the Five Star Standards Program and attend a Five Star Training. Ask questions about things you
don’t understand.
3. Compile data throughout the year. DO NOT leave the entire packet to be completed the week before it is due. This
WILL NOT WORK. It is best to check in on your progress once a month. Include all activities held between June 1,
2013 and May 23, 2014.
4. Turn in your completed Self-Evaluation by May 23, 2014. Late packets will lose 10 points for each day late.
