Religious Life of the School
On Saturday 9th May the First Holy
Communion candidates will be
attending a retreat day in Cardigan
parish church. Father Paul is the
chaplain for Milford Haven Port and is
involved in the Apostleship of the Sea
who will be leading the retreat. Their
special day is all booked for Sunday 7th
June. The choir have been asked to
provide the musical accompaniment on
the day. The date for their First
Confession is still to be confirmed by
Father Paul. Dolphin Class will lead the
Sunday Liturgy on Sunday26th April.
You are all very welcome to join us on
the day. Our Leavers’ Mass will take
place in school on Thursday 16th July.
This will be followed by a presentation
by the year 6 pupils – bring your tissues,
it’s always a tear-jerker! Please see the

SCHOOL TRIPS
This term will see the year 5 visit to the
Urdd Centre in Cardiff. The children
will be away from Monday 8th –
Wednesday 10th June. They have all sorts of
exciting trips planned including a visit to the Big
Pit, a visit to Techniquest, a tour of the Millennium
Stadium, a speedboat ride on the Bay and ten pin
bowling. It all sounds like great fun!
The pupils from Starfish & Dophin Class will be
visiting St David’s cathedral on Thursday 4th June.
This is part of the new educational programmes
that are now on offer there and which are proving
to be very successful.
End of term class trips will be organised by classes
later this term and will be communicated via
separate letters.
The annual Rotary Club trip to Folly Farm has now
been organised for Wednesday 10th June. Pupils
who have been chosen to go will receive letters
nearer the time.
INSPECTIONS
The inspection reports are now available
to view online. We have been left with a
list of recommendations which we have
already begun to address. These will
form the basis of our post-inspection
action plan which we submit to Estyn in
a few weeks.
BREAKFAST CLUB
Due to changes of kitchen staff implemented by the council,
we will now serve our last breakfast at 8.30am. At 8.45am all
pupils will go into the back playground until the first bell for
lessons goes. Foundation Phase pupils access arrangements
remain the same. Key stage 2 pupil can use the junior entrance
to get through to the back of the school. This door will be
supervised by staff until 8.55am. If any pupils arrive after this
time they must use the main front door.
NATIONAL TESTING
All pupils in Wales from year 2 – year 9 will be undertaking tests in literacy and numeracy. These
tests are to assess pupils’ progress in reading and numeracy. There are two kinds of numeracy
tests. 1. The procedural test measures skills in number, measuring and data skills. 2. The
reasoning test measures how well children can use what they know to solve everyday problems.
The tests will be starting here on Tuesday 5th May. It is really important that your child attends
school on time for these tests. Children will be sitting the tests on Tuesday, Wednesday,
Thursday and Friday of that week. Information for parents can be accessed by following this link www:http://learning.wales.gov.uk/docs/learningwales/publications/140407-nrnt-information-for-parentscarers-en.pdf
THE FRIENDS OF ST FRANCIS
The Friends work very hard at organising activities and events which help to raise funds
for our School Building Fund. We are still chipping away at our debt and your support is
always appreciated. They are presently making the final arrangements to their main fund
raising events for the next few months and their latest newsletter will be out soon. If you
are interested in joining them and can spare the odd hour here or there to help out in any
way I am sure that they would be very grateful. There are still a few of the canvas bags
for sale with all of the pupils’ faces on; they are available from the office at the price of
£5.
