 Assessments
To assist in the selection process, candidates short listed for interview
will also be required to undergo an assessment as part of the interview
process. This will usually take place on the same day as the interview
but in some cases a separate assessment day will be necessary.
The type of assessment depends on the role and the particular skills
that we want to test. We use a variety of methods including case
scenarios, presentations etc.

The Interview
The interview process is an opportunity for you to highlight your skills and
experiences and to demonstrate how you meet the requirements of the job.
Interview panels will usually consist of two or three people that have a
direct interest in the role, for example the line manager of the
position, another senior member and a member of the HR team.
All candidates are asked the same core questions designed to test
whether you have the experience, skills and attitude to deliver the
requirements of the job and be an asset to College. Often
supplementary questions will be asked to ensure that we get all the
information we need to make the right decision.
We want you to give the best interview you can so if you require

BACKGROUND
The National Collaborating Centre for Mental Health (NCCMH), a
partnership between the Royal College of Psychiatrists and the British
Psychological Society, is primarily commissioned by the National
Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE) to develop evidence
based clinical practice mental health guidelines for the NHS. In
addition to this it also carries out grant funded systematic reviews.
JOB PURPOSE
The NCCMH have been funded by the Health Technology Assessment
(HTA) Programme to carry out a systematic review in conjunction with
Nottingham University, on the treatment of tics in children with
Tourette‘s syndrome.
The Systematic Reviewer will be responsible for collating existing
reviews and conducting new reviews over a period of several months,
presenting findings to appointed experts at regular intervals. This will
be followed by the writing up the review and preparation for final
publication. The systematic reviewer will be based at the Royal College
of Psychiatrists, working closely with the Director and project
manager. There will be in close communication with key staff at
Nottingham University including the research assistant who will
support the review. There will be the opportunity to be considered for
an honorary position at UCL with access to a full range of academic
facilities.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
1.
Complete the designated systematic review to all agreed
deadlines, utilising a range of quantitative and quantitative
methods and following the process used at the NCCMH which will
be primarily based upon NICE guideline development processes.
2.
Generate specified evidence upon which to base findings and
evidence-based recommendations.
3.
Contribute to the writing of the final report as well as papers for
publication in peer review journals if appropriate.
4.
Attend and contribute to relevant team and steering group
meetings, presenting review to the steering group of researchers,
clinicians, service users and carers.
5.
Work collaboratively with other reviewers and health economists
within in the team where relevant, to achieve robust review
processes and provide support and supervision to research
assistants working on the project if needed.
6.
Participate in the planning and delivery of other aspects of NCCMH
work, if required.
7.
Undertake any other duties related to the job purpose and which
may be necessary in the development of the NCCMH‘s work, as
required by the Directors of the NCCMH.
8.
Carry out all duties in a safe and proper manner in accordance
with the College’s Health and Safety Policy.
9.
Undertake all duties in line with the College’s values, policies,
procedures and regulations ensuring that the work undertaken

The Royal College of Psychiatrists has been in existence in some form since 1841. First as the
"Association of Medical Officers of Asylums and Hospitals for the Insane" (later changed to
the Medico Psychological Association) then, in 1926 receiving its Royal Charter to become the
"Royal Medico Psychological Association, and finally, in 1971 receiving a Supplemental
Charter to become the "Royal College of Psychiatrists" we know today.
