2014 SOUTHERN ZONE INFORMATION SHEET

GENERAL INFORMATION:







WVS will provide one coach for ten (10) or fewer swimmers; two coaches for eleven (11) to twenty (20)
swimmers, and three coaches for twenty-one (21) or more swimmers
WVS will provide the following:
1. A team bag for first-time participants
2. 3 caps (1 silicone/2 latex)
3. 4 t-shirts
4. 1 pair of shorts
Swimmer must purchase their own swim suit as selected by the WV LSC …. Order info will be posted on
the WV LSC web site
WVS will cover the cost of entries for all participants
The total team cost – transportation, housing and food included
A $350 deposit will be required by May 23rd; 2nd deposit of $350.00 due @ Zone Swim Camp on Sat,
Jun 14th or Sun, Jun 15th; and balance will be due on day of departure
The team is planning on traveling by bus this year (**)
1. if 15 or less confirm to attend meet, will fly
2. if 16 or more confirm to attend meet, will take bus
SELECTION PROCESS:








From the WVS Short Course Championships, we will use a swimmers top 6 events based on HYTEK
Power Points (Age Group) for team selection
11-12 swimmers aging up and wishing to be considered for the 13-14 SZ team must swim at least 6
equivalent events. That is, we will not consider ANY 50 stroke or 100 IM points toward team selection
10-under and 13-14 swimmers aging up, will be integrated directly into the higher age group
In case of illness during the meet, where swimmers may not have the required 6 events, we will
determine a composite point score by averaging the points from events swum and adding to achieve 6
events and integrate this total for team selection
We will automatically invite the top 6 swimmers, based on points, to be part of the SZ team
We will invite any swimmer placing in the top 2 of a stroke event that is not otherwise selected by
points as above for relay purposes
If there are no swimmers as noted in above, we will continue team selection in point order
All swimmers must achieve a HYTEK Power Point score for 6 events of at least 1000 points
PARTICIPANT REQUIREMENTS






SZ Team swimmers will stay as a team at a hotel determined by the Age Group Chair and SZ Team
coaches. Swimmers will not stay with parents
SZ Team swimmers will be notified as to room assignments
SZ Team swimmers are expected to attend all preliminary and finals sessions unless specifically
released by the SZ Team coaches
SZ Team swimmers are expected to participate in both pool and open water events.
Any selected swimmer dropping from the team after the team uniform has been placed will be
responsible for the entire cost of the uniform
SZ Team swimmers and their parents must read and sign the WVS Code of Conduct
WV LSC Travel Assistance Program Criteria:

Swimmer will not be required to pay the 3rd (final) deposit of $150.00 if they meet the following
criteria:
1. The reimbursement request must be made by the swimmers home team head coach. The latter
must specify whether the reimbursement is to be made to the team or the swimmer/parent
2. Swimmers must participate in three (3) WVS-sanctioned non-championship meets and
successfully complete sixteen (16) individual events
3. Swimmers must participate in both the WVS SC and LC Championship meets and successfully
complete six (6) individual prelim and final events



Note 1: Swimmers are excused to participate in a higher USA-S meet if a conflict exists
Note 2: Swimmers may petition a waiver of the above for medical reasons. The General
Chair, the Age Group Chair, and an Athlete Rep will be the Review Committee
Note 3: New swimmers or swimmers transferring from other LSC's who are not able to
fulfill the criteria above may petition to receive partial reimbursement. The Review
Committee will consist of the Age Group Chair, the Treasurer, and an Athlete Rep
4. Swimmers must participate in 75% of their team’s practices between the LSC SC Championships
and the SZ Team departure
5. Swimmers must train long course if available to the swimmer's team
