Students will be able to recognize basic defenses, locations,
and materials used in medieval castles and why they’re
necessary. Students may be able to name movies, stories, or
shows that have castles in them (ex. King Arthur, Frozen,
etc.)
Students will then recognize how the template shapes are
able to be the basis of their castles as opposed to free
drawing them.
STUDENT MISUNDERSTANDING
What will be hard/confusing for students and why?
That all medieval architecture had practical purposes as
opposed to decorative purposes. This may be because
they haven’t reached this doman yet with CKLA and
don’t yet know enough about Medieval times.
Students may not understand how the templates must
line up in order for the castle to stand straight because
they may not understand the template pieces stand in for
a ruler.
Students will have examined a handout and discussed where
and how to place the decorative details. Teachers can
examine their choices to determine mastery.
Students may not understand that the placement of
decorative details also serve a purpose. This may be
because they haven’t reached this doman yet with
CKLA and don’t yet know enough about Medieval
times.
Students will have placed details in proper places and drawn
the proper materials.
Students may not understand how to depict materials
used in castles and may have to refer to handouts.
