Volume 6 Issue 2 SEPTEMBER, 2002 LETTER FROM YOUR PRESIDENT I hope everyone is having a great summer! PEAM has had two very nice circuits and I know everyone is looking forward to our big October circuit and futurities. A member asked me at our June circuit about a "somebody" who had helped make a decision concerning PEAM. Lots and lots of "somebodies" make decisions everyday for the betterment of PEAM and to keep PEAM's business in order. Somebody booked the arena, Somebody hired the photo- grapher, Somebody took entries, Somebody made the BBQ, Somebody donated items for the auction, Somebody auctioned off those items, Somebody ordered the circuit awards, Somebody figured the points for awards, Somebody put all the entries into the computer, Somebody sent all the results to PHBA after they had been checked and rechecked, Somebody wrote checks to pay the motel, the judges, the arena, etc. Somebody balanced PEAM's checkbook, Somebody worked on PEAM's website, Somebody made the showbills, Somebody made the showmanship and trail patterns, Somebody took stall reservations, Somebody donated coffee and donuts for the exhibitors, Somebody set up the show office and Somebody helped take it down. As you can see these "somebodies" did alot of work for PEAM and this list is far from complete. I'm very proud of the Somebodies we have in PEAM, if we didn't have them, we would not have a PEAM!! So I invite each and everyone of you to be a Somebody, too. Somebodies have alot of fun while they're working, please join us! I'm looking forward to seeing everyone in Columbia!! Mary Ann Ensz-Bell P.O. Box 123 Doniphan, Mo 63935 Phone: 573-996-7659 E-mail: maebe@clnet.net FROM THE EDITOR..... PEAMissouri.com is where it's at!! Log on to our website to get all the latest information about PEAM! Officers, committees, show dates, show bill, show rules, award winners, candid pictures, by-laws, etc. Our "Hospitality Room" at the PHBA Convention here in St. Louis was a "WHOPPING" success!!! Suzi Hampton was the chairperson for this committee and she did an "AWESOME" job. Even down to the "palomino" cookies she made! We have a lot of pictures of the Convention, stop by the show office to see them. It was a real "BLAST"!! Again, a hugh "THANK YOU" to Suzi for making it all happen. It was truly the "highlight" of the Convention! Don't forget all the "rainbow" futurities at our October show!! Weanlings, Yearlings, Jr and Sr horses - we have something for all of them. $25 to enter (enter at the show), $100 added with 100% payback!! David Holliday and I were asked to be guests of a St. Louis radio station KSLQ (104.5 FM) . Every Sunday morning from 8:00 to 9:00 am they have a program called "Horse Sense". They found our PEAM website and asked us to be guests to talk about PEAM, the palomino breed, halter horses, fitting your horse for halter, showing your palomino ...find out if blonds do have more fun in the show ring! It was a lot of fun and Cindy and Jeff (co-hosts) really plugged our Columbia show. I've been getting a lot of great 4-H news from Jenny Tudor, which you'll find in this newsletter. If you've got any "horse" related news you would like to share, please let me know. Charlotte Goldstein, Editor 441 Steeple Lane Chesterfield, Mo 63005 Phone: 636-530-9885 Fax: 636-394-3050 E-mail: cagold@primary.net FROM THE HORSE SHOW CHAIRMAN Hay! Speaking of which, hay in our area is a little scarce because of the extremely dry summer. Some recent rains are helping the pasture alot. I can't believe its almost fall but we are there and that means another show in Columbia. The spring show in Columbia was very good, so the change from Carthage was the right thing to do. WHY?? We made money!!!! Due to an injured horse and a wife who had some surgery, we didn't make the St. Louis show, but understand that David and crew did a GREAT job. We need you in Oct. to make this one of the best years we have had. Don't forget to bring something for the auction if you wish. This has not been a good year for some of us, but it will get better. It always does. Bring a friend and call early for stalls so we can make our plans. See you all real soon. Wayne Vanbebber, Chairman 203 Ridgeway Dr Richmond, Mo 64085 Phone: 816-470-3257 E-mail: zeeman@accessmo.com YOUTH PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE..... I hope everyone is enjoying going back to school, but it sure makes it hard to find time for riding. Congratulations to everyone that showed at the Youth World Show. Missouri was well represented with several finalists and top 10 placings. Be sure and thank your parents for letting you be part of such a big event. Hope you all had fun in the cowboy limo! It was great to see so many PEAM youth at the State 4-H Horse Show. It's fun to see familiar faces in such a big crowd. The St. Louis show was a blast, and the food at the barbecue was great as always. I am looking forward to seeing everyone at another great Columbia show. Good luck to everyone in school, and don't spend too much time on homework! UPDATE ON PEAM "4-H" YOUTH!!!!!!!!!!!! We had a good showing again from PEAM at the Missouri State Fair 4-H Horse Show on July 26-28. Six youth showed several different horses. Libby Tudor showed her Palomino, Curley and Catherine Tudor showed her Paint, Okie's Heathen. Classes averaged anywhere from 55 to 70 participants. Bethany Balk, Catherine and Libby Tudor all showed in the same age division, 12 & under. Bethany won the showman- ship class with her palomino horse, Molly, and Libby placed 7th with Curley. Bethany placed 2nd in Horsemanship, Libby placed 9th and Catherine made the final 14 with Okie. Bethany placed 3rd in Western Pleasure. Both Catherine and Libby made the top 14 cut in Hunter Under Saddle. In the Trail class, Bethany placed 5th & Catherine placed 8th. Vannessa Hancock was in the 13 & 14 yr old division and her classes were every bit as large. She placed 3rd in Reining, 4th in Trail, 5th in Showmanship and 5th in Horsemanship with her palomino, Keeper. Rachel Backes and Christine Sutherland were in the 15 & over division. Their classes averaged 60 to 70, too. Rachel got 8th in Horsemanship, 8th in Hunter Under Saddle and 8th in Trail with her palomino, VCR. She got in the finals of English Equitation as well. She showed her new 2 yr old gelding, Jacks Luck Royal Flush and WON the Western Pleasure class with him. Christine got 6th in Western Pleasure, 7th in Trail, 9th in Reining and also made the final cuts in Horsemanship and Hunter Under Saddle with her Palomino, Handy Gold Nuggett. She rode her Paint, Speedy JoJo in games and got 4th in pole bending. Catherine Tudor was one of the four members of the Buchanan County 4H Junior Horse Judging team that won FIRST in the state 4-H Judging Contest at Boone County Fairgrounds at the end of February! There were 33 teams that competed in the Junior Division, and individually she placed 12th out of 129! They had to judge halter & performance classes and also a horsemanship class. I'd say we should all be very proud of our YOUTH!! PEAMissouri.com WEBSITE. "Friends are quiet angels who lift us to our feet when our wings have trouble remembering how to fly." BBQ AND AUCTION IN OCTOBER...... Don't forget our "Famous Benny's BBQ" on Saturday night, October 5th at Boone County. Everyone is invited!! Also, would appreciate any items you can bring for the Auction, immediately following the BBQ. We always have fun and a lot of laughs with Delbert Johnston. He's a great auctioneer! If we're "lucky" we might even have Gordon Bauer from Illinois and Terry Furnish from Indiana helping out! SUSAN NOELLER, PHOTOGRAPHER.... As you all know, Susan Noeller was our photographer at the Lake St. Louis show. Not only did she take our "posed" pictures with the backdrop, but she took several shots of horses in the performance classes. Check out her website to see the proofs taken in Western Pleasure, Trail, Hunter Under Saddle and Costume Class. They are really great!! Please contact Susan directly if you're interested in purchasing one of these pictures. Her website is http://www.geocities.com/turnkeycontracting/photography Thanks a bunch, Susan, the pictures look AWESOME!! ON A SAD NOTE.............................
