Project Assignment: Scientific Models in Earth Science!
Due Date: October 2, 2015
Assignment:
Browse through your textbook and select an example of a scientific model in Earth
Science in one of the following branches (geology, meteorology or astronomy).
Complete all of the following tasks:
1. Create a labeled diagram of the model.
2. Include a written description of the model that answers the following
questions by incorporating details and explanations:
a. What does the model illustrate?
b. What evidence is there to support the model?
c. How is this model used in Earth Science?
d. Why is this model important?
Additional Criteria:
1. Present your work on 8 ½ X 11 construction paper; Include your full name,
science ID class, an appropriate title for your model and the branch of Earth
Science of your model is used in.
2. Include creative materials such as, string, beads, tissue paper, drawings, colored
pencils, etc. to make your scientific model on construction paper. Make sure the
materials you select stay put on your paper. No glitter please!
3. Make sure your final product is type written (6-8 sentences) in paragraph form
in your own words; please use 12 point font, times new roman. Also, make sure you
check all of your written work for spelling and grammar.
4. Your work will be assessed based on how thoroughly and completely you present
all of the information required above. If your project is late, 5 points will be
deducted for each day that it’s late.
