IMF expresses concern over incentive Package
International Monetary Fund (IMF)) has expressed concern over recently announced incentives initiative to whiten
black money after paying 25 percent more tax than the previous year. According to the IMF''s supplementary
appraisal "first review under the Extended Fund Facility request for non-observance of a performance criterion and
modification of performance criteria,"
Commitment to IMF: AMLA will be amended to combat tax frauds
The government has committed to the International Monetary Fund (IMF) that it will amend the Anti-Money
Laundering Act (AMLA) to include tax crimes in the Schedule of Offences to enable the use of anti-money
laundering tools to combat tax frauds, by end-June 2014.
Inflation: government's claims
Federal Finance Minister Ishaq Dar while briefing the cabinet in the presence of the media with the objective of
dispelling the general inaccurate perception with respect to the state of economy laid the blame for high inflation on
the caretakers as well as the provincial governments not focused on dealing with profiteers.
Energy conservation - the only option – I
We are facing acute Energy Crisis and yet, we do not seem to understand the seriousness of this unfortunate
situation which can bring about total collapse of our economic system. We are talking about new large power plants
at preposterous costs, using imported fuel (the same mistake we did when 1200 MW Hub Power Plant was planned
in 90s) and yet, not caring to see the energy conservation opportunities right under our nose.
