Position: Liver Transplant Anesthesiologist
Position Description:
The Division of Liver Transplant Anesthesia at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston
(MUSC) is seeking a board certified anesthesiologist to join our Anesthesia team. Currently we have 5
members caring for approximately 70 liver transplants a year. We are a stable and collegial team that
works closely with the transplant surgeons. The Liver Transplant Subspecialty call responsibilities are
specific to Liver Transplants only. We also preferentially staff hepatectomies and living kidney donors. As
a member of this team, the anesthesiologist will provide clinical and educational services, including clinical
and didactic teaching of anesthesiology residents and medical students.
Candidates should be Board Certified in Anesthesiology and possess strong clinical, educational, and
interpersonal skills that will enable him/her to be a leader within the department and institution. Research
experience and interests are preferred but not required. A Liver Transplant fellowship trained physician
with experience in adult and pediatric liver transplant with TEE certification is preferable, however, all
applicants will be considered. This position does NOT involve providing anesthesia for CT cases or staffing
an ICU. Interest in and commitment to a scholarly approach to the teaching of medical students, residents
fellows and colleagues is essential.
Duties and Responsibilities: Provide high quality care to patients.









Member of Liver Transplant Subspecialty Call Team.
Participate in transplant related administrative duties/meetings.
Participate in transplant related QA/QI projects
Participate in general and transplant on-call assignments in accordance with departmental
schedules.
Medically direct and supervise fellows, residents, students and other healthcare providers, in
accordance with departmental requirements.
Participate directly in the clinical and didactic Anesthesiology education of fellows, residents and
medical students at MUSC.
Support and contribute to planning and continued enhancement of the department's educational
and research programs.
Participate in research and other scholarly activities, including scholarly publication, and mentor
residents and fellows in research activities, as appropriate.
Participate in extra-departmental activities within MUSC, MUHA, and MUSC Physicians, as
appropriate.
Position requirements:



Doctor of Medicine or equivalent degree from country of origin
Completion of specialty training (residency in anesthesiology) and Board certification in
anesthesiology by appropriate certifying agency of country of origin
Licensure or eligibility for South Carolina licensure
Preferred requirements:


Fellowship Trained
TEE Certification (Basic or Advanced)
