Partial Year (10/12 plan or 11/12 plan) Academic Year (Fall/Spring) Program Specific (duration of program) Approved Date: July 8, 2014 GENERAL STATEMENT Under the general supervision and direction of the Membership Services and Marketing Coordinator, the Membership Services Representative is the front line staff and interacts daily with facility patrons and program participants, primarily regarding membership interest and sales.. The student assistant is exposed to and must be able to handle a wide variety of people and personalities. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned. 1. Greet and welcome all visitors of the department with courtesy, and develop relationships that ensure member retention and satisfaction. 2. Explains membership benefits and assists constituents in registering for programs by performing a variety of transactions to maintain member records, program registration, cash receipts, credits, and financial assistance. 3. Exhibits front end knowledge of registration and membership software, and troubleshoots when member access is denied, or when software fails to allow member access. 4. Provides tours to potential members and establishes the benefits of participating in the departments’ activities that meet individual needs. 5. Assists in emergency evacuations and acts as the front line contact to campus police in case of a member or campus emergency. 6. Provides formal presentations to a variety of campus groups and organizations to educate the campus about ASI Recreation. 7. Embodies ASI Recreation’s mission and demonstrates it on a daily basis. 8. Performs opening and closing duties of the Membership Services Desk, as well as securing equipment and cash bags. 9. Answers phones and assists with questions and concerns about membership, as well as all programs and features related to the facility. 10. Identifies, researches, and resolves member issues. 11. Performs light-duty cleaning such as vacuuming and dusting. 12. Works on special projects as assigned. HRrv0714 MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Education and/or Experience Recreation Administration, Kinesiology, and Health Services majors are preferred, but not required. Must be enrolled at California State University, Long Beach with at least six units and be in good standing. Current CPR/First Aid/AED certification required preferred. Minimum or no previous experience require. Knowledge and Abilities Successful candidate will possess knowledge of recreation and fitness activities and the ability to connect well with constituents. Experience in customer service and effective communication skills are desirable. At least 1 year of cash register experience and knowledge of computer programs is preferred. Must be willing to work with an ethnically and culturally diverse group of student staff and volunteers. Exceptional customer skills, dependability and punctuality are a must. Must possess enhanced leadership skills and be able to work in a diverse environment. Other Qualifications The applicant must be available to work evenings and weekends during the academic year. Hours during summer and winter breaks are to be determined by supervisor. The position requires that the incumbent be patient, trustworthy, dedicated, responsive to member needs, and outgoing. The employee must have strong customer service skills, be adaptable to last-minute changes, and have the ability to work effectively with a wide variety of people and personalities.
