CHICO AREA RECREATION AND PARK DISTRICT 545 VALLOMBROSA AVE CHICO, CA 95926 (530) 895-4711 FAX (530) 895-4721 Facility Attendant Job Description DEFINITION Under direction of the Facility Coordinator, the Facility Attendant performs all duties pertaining to the supervision, maintenance, safety and operation of an assigned facility and performs related work as required. DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS Under the direction of the Facilities Coordinator, the Facility Attendant is responsible for setting up and monitoring events, properly closing and securing facilities after events, ensuring that the facilities are ready for use the next day, as well as other duties as assigned. The Facility Attendant also performs custodial duties while providing superior customer service to customers. Must be pro-active rather than reactive when responding to problems or concerns from superiors, subordinates and the public. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS To perform this position’s responsibilities successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Representing the District and various departments to the public in a professional and effective manner Posses the ability to develop and maintain good working relationships with employees and patrons Responsible for custodial duties and ensuring that the process for cleaning, closing and securing a facility are completed correctly and that the facility is ready for use the following day; floors are properly swept and mopped, restrooms are stocked and cleaned, kitchen is clean, trash has been disposed of in the outdoor trash receptacle, carpets are vacuumed, tables and chairs are cleaned and stored in the proper area, restroom facilities and related fixtures are clean and sanitized, including drinking fountains, custodial mop sinks, restroom sinks, mirrors, urinals, and toilets Collects and disposes of refuse and recyclable materials; may pick up litter from grounds surrounding buildings Opens and closes the facility for evening activities and weekend rentals on a timely basis O:\JOB DESCRIPTIONS\Office\533559776 2010 Page 1 of 4 Prepares facilities for event use; moves, arranges, sets up and takes down chairs, tables and equipment Remains at the facility and monitors activities, room capacity, and the needs of the groups using the Center Supervises events and programs being held at the facility to ensure renters are complying with District Policies and Procedures Works with security guards in monitoring events and programs Exercises crowd control Patrols inside and outside the building during open access to restricted areas Monitors and adjusts heating and air conditioning Makes sound independent judgments during emergency situations Liaison between public safety and the District At closing time, ensures that all users leave the premises, alarms are activated and all doors are secure and locked Responsible for the control of all activities at the facility and keeping the Facility Coordinator informed of the status of the facility and any non-compliance of policies and procedures. May also be responsible for placing a phone call to the Facility Coordinator’s voicemail at the end of the shift to inform of any maintenance conditions affecting facility operation or any damage that was caused Cleans up after accidents Follows safe work procedures; ensures proper safety precautions are met and regulations are followed Discourages loitering Prevents theft and damage of facility, materials and equipment; secures and manages inventory Surveys facilities for problems of security (including non-functioning light bulbs and vandalism) and hazardous conditions Identifies and reports hazardous conditions, items in need of repair, and building maintenance needs in assigned buildings and facilities. Completes facility reports as required May be trained to operate various equipment involved in the maintenance of facilities Maintains good public relations Acts as a representative of the facility during non-business hours. He/she should have a congenial manner towards the public and show sensitivity for special needs of problems in the community KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES Knowledge and Skills in: Principles and practices of customer service Accurately and legibly complete reports and maintain records Safe work practices Procedures, equipment and materials used in custodial work. Must be willing to work on short notice. ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS AND COMMUNICATIONS Work with, in and around chemicals, solvents and pesticides, or work where such chemicals have been sprayed Work indoors or outdoors in a variety of environmental conditions, including heat, cold, dampness, humidity, dryness, smoke and noise Work irregular hours, nights, weekends, etc. Walk, stand.
