Volume 1 Issue 2 Quarterly Newsletter May 2014 Reins of Rhythm Riding & Horsemanship Spring has FINALLY arrived and… summer is here! News: Reins of Rhythm’s program is continuing to grow and reach more in the community. Our first home school group session was such a success that we added a second session which just finished in May. Our Easter Egg Hunt was extremely well attended – what a crowd! Thank you so much to everyone who helped stuff the 1,000 + eggs. With all those kids we sure needed every egg that was out there! The Yard Sale & Pony Rides fundraiser had a great variety of vendors and yard salers, lots of pony riders, and was also well attended. Reins of Rhythm Saddle Club was formed as an extra activity for program participants to gain more horse experience and knowledge (more details below). Pony Day Camps are coming up in June. This is an open to the public activity so please share the information with anyone you know who may be interested. Mindy has been added as the newest program lesson horse. Dressage Show: Our dressage show was lots of fun and a great learning experience for both our participants and the audience. The participants gave the audience opportunity to see a great variety of stages in learning to ride. Our older participants were a great help in keeping the show going smoothly. Our judge was great at giving the riders encouraging and constructive remarks to help further develop their skills. We are really thankful for these opportunities for our participants to “show off” what they have been learning. Feature Event: Saddle Club events are open to current Reins of Rhythm participants only. The purpose of the club is to give participants more hands on experience with the horses, opportunity to further develop their current skills as well as learn new skills, and to encourage team work skills. Our first saddle club meeting had a focus on working with young horses, and then some skill building team work activities with the horses. Our second saddle club meeting gave saddle club members opportunity to participate as they learn how to clip horses, band and braid manes, and prepare their horse to look their best for showing. Featured Horse: Gucci’s Grace, “GiGi”, turned one year old in March. She is now a yearling and has given program participants a chance to learn about young horses, and to see how it actually takes a very long time to train and prepare a horse to be a dependable saddle horse. As part of our Saddle Club project, participants researched training methods and activities used with yearlings and will have opportunity to put some of these into practice with GiGi as she grows. Lots of work to be done: Keeping up with a facility takes a lot of work and we couldn’t do it without all our volunteers and helpers. River Rock Academy has been bringing students out weekly to help keep up with all this extra work. We are always looking for volunteers, if you are interested or know of someone be sure to fill out a volunteer application off our webpage under forms. Dressing for Summer: Summer brings hot days and we understand everybody wants to try to stay cool. Please remember, closed toed and heeled shoes are mandatory for being around the horses. Long pants are preferable for riding to avoid saddles pinching and rubbing legs (bring shorts and flip flops to change into!). Summer Schedule: With school letting out soon we will be changing lessons to the morning hours to try and beat the heat for our riders and horses. Please let me know the day and time you prefer ASAP. Friday will be used for the Pony Camps so lessons will be held Monday through Thursday. Remember to let us know as soon as possible if you have vacations planned so we can work around it with lessons. Date Changes: ~First day camp has been changed to Monday, June 16 due to the extended school year. ~The May 25th show is being rescheduled, date to be announced once we have volunteer availability figured out! May’s Expenses Facility Lease $1200.00 Insurance 100.00 Hoof Care 300.00 Vet 250.00 Past Medical 100.00 Feed 75.00 Deworming 120.00 Joint Supplement 80.00 Massages (3 Horses) 95.00 CPA for Non-Profit 100.00 Continue Education 80.00 Arena Maintenance 60.00 Tack Repairs/Replacement 80.00 Office Supplies 50.00 Payments: We are always trying to find a way to make things simpler. We have payment information for each participant on the website so everyone can keep track of where they are with payments but this still hasn’t seemed to be most efficient so we are in the process of switching everything to QuickBooks and everyone will receive their bills via e-mail. If you have not received an email already you will shortly. We are sending out a general letter reminding everyone of the new rules from January on billing and lessons times. Please do your best to consistently attend your scheduled lessons. There is a new Payment Box at the parking lot arena gate entrance, please feel free to leave payments there. If you have any questions please e-mail Beth at billing@reinsofrhythm.org. Fill in Instructor: Reins of Rhythm will have a substitute instructor coming in on the arrival of Patience new baby (due August 1st). Watch your email for an introduction to the substitute instructor. It takes special qualifications and skills to work safely with horses and children. As most of you know, Patience volunteers full time to instruct lessons as well as care for the horses. We will be having some fundraisers to help cover the extra costs to the program for hiring our substitute instructor that we will have during this time in addition to the regular program expenses. If anyone is willing to help, has fundraiser ideas or is willing to organize a fundraiser contact Beth or Patience. 2014 Calendar of Event June 29th (Sunday) Fun Show at Mt View Veterinarian Clinic Time: 2:00 pm Entry Fee $15.
