A Resolution to integrate the career center and business skills into the core
curriculum.
IN THE SENATE OF THE ASSOCIATED STUDENTS
TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 09, 2016
Senator Jacobs submitted the following bill:
A RESOLUTION
A Resolution Suggesting the integration of the Career Center
and business writing skills into the core curriculum.
1
Whereas, student success is the main objective of the administration of
2
Nevada and NSHE as a whole.
3
Whereas, some colleges do not teach their students the basic skills it
4
takes to acquire an entry-level position in the field of their choice.
5
Whereas, all graduates will be engaged in business writing ranging from
6
résumés to memos.
7
Whereas, several college’s graduates have higher rates of
8
unemployment than the current national average of unemployment rates.
9
Whereas, the success of Alumni will improve the rankings of our
10
University.
2
1
Whereas, the success of Alumni will improve the publics perception of
2
our University and improve our rankings and the caliber of students we
3
attact attract in the future.
4
Whereas, successful alumni are more likely to give back to the
5
university that helped them become successful.
6
Whereas, alumni giving back will also improve our rankings in the US
7
News and Review.
8
Whereas, improved rankings will make it easier to attract and retain
9
national merit scholars.
10
Whereas, improved success would give the University a stronger
11
position at the next budget negotiations.
12
Whereas, the integration of the referenced items would help NSHE and
13
the University of Nevada to help achieve the recent goal of creating
14
50,000 jobs in the next two years by the governors office.
15
Be it resolved by the Senate of the Associated Students, that we suggest
16
to the Administration and the Regents to integrate the career center and
17
a business writing class into the core curriculum in a manner similar to
18
that of what the college of business has currently implemented in MGT
