Job Purpose: Provide a host of maintenance and team management functions, preventative, innovative
and reactive, on the infrastructure servicing the Zepler Institute cleanrooms and laser laboratories. Role
also includes maintenance schedule planning, facilities stability monitoring and liaison with maintenance
contractors, both internal and external.
Key Accountabilities/Primary Responsibilities (6-10 bullet points maximum)


To deliver in-depth specialist technical support for the Zepler Institute’s research
agenda by ensuring that all required infrastructure and facilities are provided
with minimum interruption and the required safety compliance (such as pressure
regulations, written scheme of inspections, COSHH etc.)
Respond to requests for lab modifications/upgrades to meet academic research.
Provide a complete project management service from initial request, through
planning/costing and engagement of work to commissioning and handover.
Plan and delegate tasks to small team of technicians to provide the necessary
service to keep the ZI infrastructure facilities operational and respond to lab
modification requests.

Actively promote and develop systems for a closer working relationship between
B46/B53 infrastructure technicians to provide seamless support throughout the
Zepler Institute

To attend internal and external meetings with Estates and Facilities and external
contractors and to ensure any issues with the ZI infrastructure plant are resolved

in a timely manner. Where necessary negotiate with equipment suppliers.

To oversee the infrastructure maintenance contracts and budgets to ensure the
correct level of spares are maintained to minimise down time. Maintain records
of engineer visits to book against maintenance budgets/contracts

To assist the Cleanroom Complex Manager in the development, planning and
management of the facilities maintenance strategy to determine program
schedules for maintenance shutdowns and the associated level of support
required.
Liaise with Estates and Facilities and the B53 term maintenance contractor
regarding day to day maintenance tasks within the ZI cleanrooms and laser labs

Plant Equipment Vendors/Service Engineers – discuss plant issues, new developments,
modifications. Supervise vendor engineer visits.
Process Engineers – liaise with these to plan preventative maintenance schedules, discuss day
to day tool issues with respect to facilities requirements
Academic and Research Students – discuss facilities issues, lab modifications and upgrades
Norland Estate Management (University Building Maintenance Contractor) – Permits to work,
facilities isolations etc.
Estates and Facilities – discuss day to day maintenance issues and planned maintenance
shutdowns
