In particular, the aim is to provide low loss active and passive mid infrared fibres to meet the lasing and imaging of the gas species of interest at turbine exhaust plume. This position will focus on developing the optoelectronic components to provide proof of principle imaging concepts that can be implemented on commercial aviation turbines towards developing the next generation of low net carbon technology. The person is expected to have experience to hit the ground running. Key Accountabilities/Primary Responsibilities (6-10 bullet points maximum) % Time 1. To undertake a range of high quality research activities with minimum supervision associated with synthesis of high purity infrared materials and fibre. This may include user equipment modification and development, analysis and evaluation of product and integration into the FLITES final objectives. 70 2. Regularly disseminate findings by taking the lead in preparing publication materials for referred journals, presenting results at conferences, or exhibiting work at other appropriate events. 20 3. To attend and engage consortium meetings and workshops, and assist in 10 setting up workshops with external participants including industrial partners. Internal & External Relationships: (nature & purpose of relationships) Perform multi-disciplinary collaborative research across the FLITES consortium both academic and industrial. Special Requirements: Background in glass science and manufacturing high purity infrared materials Background in fibre drawing of infrared materials. To have good engineering skills in developing/modifying equipment such as furnaces, National Instruments hardware, labview programming and SG fibre drawing equipment.
