Overview The FGI Guidelines has been undergoing a major revision over the past three years. The work of the committee is complete and the document is ready to be published in January of 2014. In this era of health care reform many traditional design concepts are being challenged by state and federal payers, clinicians, patients, and professionals supporting the physical environment. This session will review the work of the Health Healthcare Facility Managers Association of Delaware Valley, Inc. Guidelines Revision Committee in the areas of patient safety, nursing unit design, infection control, operating room requirements, children's hospitals, etc. The participate will: Describe the basics of the seven safety risk assessments included in the standards. Explain how the standards will impact the patient experience. Evaluate the major changes and how they will impact design of new or renovated facilities. Tell how the integration of standards can still allow flexibility in determining how best to deliver patient care. Target Audience Who should attend? Guglielmo, CFPS, CHSP, LEED A.P. Engineer Department of Engineering Anne Guglielmo is an Engineer in the Department of Engineering at The Joint Commission. She serves as one of four engineers providing support for the Life Safety, Environment of Care, and Emergency Management standards. In this role, Ms. Guglielmo provides interpretation of standards, reviews equivalency and extension requests, reviews survey reports, conducts periodic performance review conference calls, serves as faculty for educational programs, and conducts on-site surveys. Ms. Guglielmo joined The Joint Commission in 2010 with 10 years experience in Fire Protection Engineering. Prior to joining The Joint Commission, she worked as a Fire Protection Engineer in the Design and Construction Industry. In this role, she was responsible for reviewing plans for fire protection and life safety code compliance, field survey and documentation, preparing and presenting project submittals, energy code compliance modeling, and project equivalency identification and preparation. Ms. Guglielmo is a Certified Fire Protection Specialist (CFPS), a Certified Healthcare Safety Professional (CHSP), and a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design Accredited Professional (LEED A.P.) She is a member of the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), the Society of Fire Protection Engineers (SFPE) and the International Code Council (ICC). Ms. Guglielmo received her Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering, specialized in Fire and Life Safety Engineering, from the Illinois Institute of Technology in Chicago, Illinois. Speaker 2: Doug Erickson, FASHE, CHFM, HFDP, CHC Director, Health Care doug.erickson@northstarmgmt.com ... Doug provides expertise in health care facilities planning, design and construction, as well as national codes and standards, to Northstar projects. He brings 36 years of total industry experience, which includes being a health care facility manager, an authority having jurisdiction, and 26 years as the principal advocate representing the American Hospital Association (AHA)/American Society for Healthcare Engineering (ASHE) membership on national codes and standards and built environment committees. He is a member of ASHE, National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), and American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE). Doug has represented AHA/ASHE membership on over 15 NFPA Technical Committees, which includes NFPA 101 (Life Safety Code ©) and is the immediate past chair of NFPA 99 (Health Care Facilities Code) and NFPA 110 (Emergency Power Supply Systems.) Doug is also the chair of the Clinical Subcommittee of ASHRAE Standard 170 (Ventilation in Healthcare Facilities). Doug has represented AHA/ASHE membership on over 15 NFPA Technical Committees, which includes NFPA 101 (Life Safety Code ©) and is the immediate past chair of NFPA 99 (Health Care Facilities Code) and NFPA 110 (Emergency Power Supply Systems.) Doug has been appointed the CEO of FGI and has an illustrious history with this organization. He is also a founding board member of FGI and has had a leadership position with the Guidelines since 1985 and a committee member since 1978. Doug currently chairs the 2014 edition and was the chair of the 2010 and vice-chair of the 1987, 1992/92, 1996/97, 2001 and 2006. Doug earned his Bachelor of Science in aerospace engineering at the University of Illinois Champagne-Urbana and is the past Deputy Executive Director of ASHE, Director of Planning, Design and Construction for the AHA, and the Director of Engineering for the Joint Commission in Chicago, IL. He is a featured speaker at national and local conferences on health care facility codes, standards, guidelines, and environmental infection control. Speaker 3- Mark Kenneday, MBA, CHFM, FASHE Mr. Kenneday has a Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Houston in Construction Management and an MBA from UH with a concentration in Service Marketing. He currently holds the position of Vice Chancellor for Campus Operations at the University of Arkansas For Medical Sciences. Mark was elected to be the 2013 president for ASHE, The American Society for Healthcare Engineering of the American Hospital Association (AHA). In this role Mark also serves in a leadership capacity on the ASHE Board of Directors. With 30 years of experience in healthcare facilities management, Mark has served in various committee and board roles including President of TAHFM, Texas Association of Healthcare Facilities Management, where he now serves on their Board of Directors with emeritus status. He also serves on the Board of Directors for the Arkansas Association of Healthcare Engineering (AAHE) as their ASHE liaison.
