Involving Young People Research Officer post: The Involving Young People Research Officer post is a unique opportunity to play a lead role in the development, implementation, support and evaluation of young people’s involvement in research to improve the health and well being of young people. Working within DECIPHer, a UKCRC Centre of Excellence for Public Health Research and engaging with a wide portfolio of projects supported by PHIRN, the Public Health Improvement Research Network, the post will involve (i) the strategic and operational facilitation of young people’s involvement in research on the development and evaluation of interventions to improve health and health related 3ehavior; (ii) research and evaluation of the best ways of involving young people in a wide variety of research, in different contexts and using different research designs. Dr Andrew Edgar (Centre for Applied Ethics, Cardiff University) will explore the role that art has in allowing us to acknowledge and engage with the potential meaninglessness and tragedy of life, and to articulate our sense of loss when meaning and and beauty are absent. Dr John Anderson (School of Biosciences, Cardiff University) will discuss the way in which people with Alzheimer’s can learn to do new things despite memory problems, and how this contrasts with the current government strategy for caring and treating individuals with dementia. Clare Potter (Poet) will discuss the way in which poetry makes us remember, but also lets us experience as if for the first time. In addition, Dr Martin O’Neill (Cesagen, Cardiff University) will distribute a short article on the subject of dignity and the care of older people. The session is being run by library staff for academic and NHS staff to enable staff to keep up to date with current research published in your field. The workshop will be a practical hands on session to help develop the skills needed to keep up to date with current research. The session will include: How to set up alerts on a number of databases so that you get emailed the details of any new research articles meeting a defined search criteria. An introduction to setting up RSS feeds. These can be used to keep you informed of new content from websites, such as BBC news headlines or the contents pages of your favourite journal.
