Project Title
Polynominal Matrix Factorisation Techniques for Multichannel Signal
Processing
Start Date
1st July 2013 or 1st October 2013
Duration
3 years full time
Source of Funding
Cardiff School of Engineering
Novel algorithms for the factorisation of polynomial matrices have been
developed over the last five or ten years and their potential application
has been demonstrated for some important multichannel signal
processing problems. These include: the exploitation of multiple input
multiple output (MIMO) wireless communication channels to achieve
optimal bandwidth utilisation; and implementing better broadband beam
forming for underwater acoustic sensor arrays to improve the
performance of future sonar systems.
Project Summary
This project is intended to develop these techniques further either by
developing new / improved polynomial matrix algorithms or by extending
the scope of existing computer simulations to include, for example, more
realistic scenarios, comparisons with other methods using benchmark
data sets, or novel areas of application. The research will be carried out
under the supervision of Prof John McWhirter FRS FREng and Dr Yulia
Hicks(Cardiff University) in support of a new EPSRC/DSTL project led by
Prof Jonathon Chambers FREng FIEEE (Loughborough University) under
the University Defence Research Collaboration (UDRC) on signal
processing.
