Name: Caylon White UNCW Email: Ctw8703@uncw.edu Position/positions you are applying for: VP of Leadership Development Current GPA: 3.3 Residence Hall 14-15: Schwuites Phone Number: (252)-341-2001 Please answer the following. 1. Why do you want to be on the RHA Executive Board? I would like to join the RHA Executive Board because I strongly believe in campus involvement and inner community association. I love being a part of the UNCW community and I want to share my passion with the other residents who are on campus. I would like to have the bond that the Residence Hall Association executive board shares with the campus, and be a member of the connected RHA family. 2. What are you goals for RHA as a whole? My goals for RHA are to work with other student organizations on campus to better UNCW’s environment and atmosphere as a whole. Another important goal for RHA is to actively communicate with all resident halls on campus to collectively improve the student and staff’s living experience. It is important that RHA connect with Area chapters, ARCs, and RCs in order to adequately get a feel for the environment of UNCW, and to help expand the learning environment of our school. 3. Why are you running for this position? I am running for VP of Leadership Development because I feel I can honestly guide my peers to want to better themselves as student leaders. When first coming to UNCW I was not a very strong leader, but with a lot of hard work and some guidance from other on-campus leaders I’ve blossomed exponentially in that aspect. I also highly enjoyed winter conference, fall retreat, and fall training and look forward to the challenge of organizing those events to work efficiently, but also make sure everyone is having fun and is engaged! 4. What are the goals you have for this position? The Goals I have for VP of Leadership development are to always stay positive and connected to all the areas, while educating area chapters, and planning Winter conference, fall retreat, and fall training. It is my personal goal to teach people who may not know good leadership qualities tips, tricks, and techniques to help better their confidence and overall leadership potential. 5. Have you ever organized an event for a particular organization? If so, please describe your experience. Yes, I have worked with my area chapter (Seahawk Village) to plan many different programs in our area. We have put on quite a few informational and social events in the Village and plan to put on many more. I have also had experience with planning some of the aspects of Hawk it Out and RHA’s program Silent Disco. 6. Executive Board positions require teamwork all year round. Describe how you work with others. Feel free to include an example. I devote myself to a team like a cog to a well-oiled machine. A good sense of teamwork is by far one of the greatest qualities a person can posses. I try to keep team conversations light and airy so no toes are stepped on, while still devoting my attention to the matter at hand. I am currently an orientation leader and being an OL requires peppiness 24 hours of the day. I try to feed off the energy of the OL team and let them feed off of me as to keep everyone’s spirits boosted and just have an absolutely great time. I love teams, big or small, and I always remember that THERE’S NO I IN TEAM! BUT there is a M, an A, a T, and an E in team which spells mate and reminds me to be the best teammate I can be! 7. How would you best describe your leadership skills? What are you strengths? What are your challenges? I would best describe my leadership skills as a dedicated, but lighthearted, leader. I am very passionate about everything I’m involved in, but I also know how to have fun and be goofy when appropriate. I would say that one of my most prominent strengths is that I strive to make people feel welcomed and accepted around me, and I make an honest attempt to be very inclusive and respectful of people’s differences. A weakness I posses is that some would consider me a “people pleaser.” The challenge I would face in relation to this weakness on executive board is making strong decisions that satisfy everyone’s needs, but not necessarily everyone’s wants. 8. What does being a Seahawk mean to you? A Seahawk is a prideful creature that soars above all the rest like a rocket to the moon. Being a Seahawk is having pride in yourself and peers and knowing it is your duty to maintain the excellence of being a member of the UNCW community. Being a Seahawk is a great honor, and as a Seahawk you should uphold the integrity of our prideful and absolutely amazing school. U! N! C! DOUBLE U DOUBLE U! *Cue the backflip* 9. List any extracurricular activities and other organizations you have been involved with or are currently a part of. I am currently a part of the 2013-2014 Orientation leader team, and a part of the Hawk it out committee, Silent Disco Committee, and Seahawk Village Area chapter (Liaison). 10. What are your potential time commitments for the 2014-2015 school year? Please list classes (total hours), work, and any potential leadership positions in any other organizations. -16 Credit Hours -Resident Assistant (Schwuites) -Desk Receptionist (Seahawk Village) -Hawk It Out Season 8 Co-Chair 11. Please list any additional information or any other skills you may have that would be beneficial in this application process.
