Residence Hall Association Executive Board Application President Academic Year 2015 - 2016 Dear Applicant: We are truly excited that you are taking an interest in joining the Residence Hall Association Executive Board. It is a leadership experience that will not only help you grow as a person, but will also help to facilitate the growth of others living here on campus. By joining the Executive Board, you will gain several new skills and hone skills you already possess through planning and presenting programming, developing leadership skills, and various leadership opportunities throughout the year. Before completing this application, please read the attached job description fully. The timeline is as follows: March 6 Applications due by 11:59 pm to RHA Advisor. You may leave a hard copy at the Hutchens Front Desk or email an electronic copy to TravisSchilla@MissouriState.edu March 16-20 Applicants will be interviewed by Presidential Selection Committee. March 23 Committee recommendations will be presented to General Assembly. General Assembly Representatives will elect President. It is important to have the paper application turned in to the Hutchens front desk or an electronic copy e-mailed by the application deadline. Positional Description The President represents the Residence Hall Association at all required functions. The President also prepares the agenda for and presides over all Executive Board and General Assembly meetings. The President acts as a liaison between students and departmental administration, with the recommendation of one meeting per month. The President completes all regional and national duties required of the position by NACURH Inc. a. b. c. d. e. f. g. h. i. The President should ensure that all supportive grants are administered in accordance with the Bylaws. The President shall ensure RHA remains an active, registered, and recognized organization through the Office of Student Engagement. The President shall coordinate transitional documents for the Executive Board. The President shall hold monthly meetings with the Presidents/Chairpersons of each Hall Council. The President shall represent the organization at monthly meetings of student leaders The President shall hold monthly one-on-ones with each Executive Board member. The President shall plan and implement a fall and spring retreat for the Executive Board. The President is jointly responsible, alongside the NRHH President, for awarding eight (8) Bronze Pins The President shall be jointly responsible, with the Department of Residence Life, Housing and Dining Services and the Department of Financial Services, for administration of the RHA Resident Activity Fee funding and funds acquired through fund-raising efforts. These duties include, but are not limited to, per semester reports on the RHA budget. Requirements If selected, applicants must be available to complete a training period with the executive board in early August (est. Aug 6 – Aug 17). A. Executive Board officers must be full-time students as defined by the University. Exceptions may be made at discretion of the RHA Advisor. B. Executive Board officers must not be on academic or disciplinary probation. C. Executive Board officers must maintain a minimum 2.60 semester GPA and a 2.50 cumulative GPA. D. Executive Board officers may not serve in any other Executive Board positions within RHA. E. The President shall have been a member of the General Assembly or Executive Board for at least one (1) semester prior to taking office. In the event that no Presidential candidates have been a member of the General Assembly or Executive Board for at least one (1) semester prior to taking office, candidates who have not met that requirement will be considered. F. Executive Board officers may not serve as Resident Assistants or Residential Programming Assistants while on the Executive Board. G. RHA Executive Board members cannot serve as Hall Council Executive Board members. H. Executive Board officers must sign the Executive Board Financial Assistance Agreement upon taking office. I. Executive Board members must reside on campus for the fall and spring semesters during their term. J. The President must attend all RHA General Assembly (Mondays 4:00 P.M. – 5:30 P.M.) and Executive Board (Wednesday 4:00 P.M. – 6:00 P.M.) meetings, work 5 office hours per week, hold weekly meetings with advisor and monthly meetings with Executive Board members, attend training periods prior to the beginning of the fall and spring semesters, and attend all official RHA functions as required. Note: Please consult the Office of Financial Aid for information how this will effect financial aid. Compensation may be prorated for starting mid-semester. Although the RHA Executive Board is compensated, compensation associated with the position is not affected by student employment 1,000 hour restrictions and this position will not affect other campus employment opportunities outside of those listed in the positional requirements. Election Process All applicants will be interviewed by the Presidential Selection Committee. The committee will be formed of: 1. RHA Advisor 2. NRHH Advisor 3. Hall Council Advisor selected by the General Assembly 4. The outgoing RHA President If the President is running for re-election, the spot will be filled by another outgoing Executive Board Member. 5. Outgoing Executive Board Member selected by the executive board 6. Two General Assembly Representatives selected by the General Assembly This committee will interview all applicants to determine eligibility. The committee will recommend all suitable applicants to the General Assembly for elections. The General Assembly Representatives will elect the President from the choices presented by the committee. The President-Elect will spend the remainder of the spring semester being trained with the current President.
