Applicants who have previously received awards from the STF will be given a lower priority. NIHR Health Protection Research Unit in Emerging and Zoonotic Infections Guidelines for HPRU EZI Award application 1) The fund is open to all HPRUEZI research staff and members, including research students. It is not intended for students attending taught courses, except under exceptional circumstances, when a pre-proposal (not more than one side of A4) should be submitted for approval. The following should be particularly noted: The fund is particularly targeted at ‘pump-priming’ research projects and a major factor in their evaluation will be the link to specific future funding opportunities. Travel for collaborative laboratory work will be given high priority. Attendance at conferences may be funded but with lower priority. Applicants who have previously received awards from this fund will be given lower priority. Projects that form part of a PhD project will only be funded in exceptional circumstances and justification must be given as to why support is being requested from the Fund. 2) Briefly give details of the specific aims of the proposal, including any strategic value the project would have to the development of research or education in the HPRU EZI. 3) The complete application should not exceed three sides of A4. Applicants should therefore describe the background to their proposal and the specific projects to be undertaken briefly, but with enough detail to enable reviewers to make an informed decision. 4) Please justify why you are requesting funds from the HPRU EZI Scientific Training Fund, the contribution that this project will make to your personal development and the level of support requested. 5) The budget should normally be in GBP but please indicate other currencies, if used. The committee will make its awards in GBP. A full budget breakdown is required for your application and those showing significant contributions from other sources will be given priority as some contribution towards the full cost is expected. The amount of money awarded varies considerably but tends to be in the range £500-£1,000. 6) Applications should be endorsed by your PI or HPRU EZI Theme Leader. A letter of support may accompany the application. 7) Six months after the award, successful applicants will be expected to submit a report (approximately 250 words) giving information about the work undertaken and any specific outcomes (e.g. grant applications or funding) Applications should be submitted to the HPRU EZI Office, to hpruei@liv.ac.uk
