NATIVE TRIBAL SCHOLARS PROGRAM Position Opening: Residential Counselors Dates: July 1-August 9 (Summer Program) Program Objectives: The goal of the Native Tribal Scholars Program is to provide Native American high school students with the skills and motivation necessary for access to and success in post-secondary education. NTS offers an array of academic, personal enrichment and college/career services designed to supplement public high school education and tailored to address specific student needs. Position Opening: Residential Counselor The following job description outlines a full-time, six-week summer RESIDENTIAL (i.e. live-in) position. Please note that the position requires a high level of professionalism as it involves being a role model and mentor for 30 high school students participating in the program. This position is residential 5 nights per week. Duties & Responsibilities: • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • Participate in staff orientation. Full participation in orientation is required. Provide one-on-one personal/academic counseling support as needed. Assist in dormitory supervision at all times. Remain highly visible to students and staff throughout the course of each day. Assist in the supervision of field trips, cultural events and recreational activities. Run weekly floor meetings with students. Monitor students in the dining hall during meals. Develop and implement recreational/cultural workshops for students. Patrol dormitory grounds during night duty. Attend daily tutor/counselor, staff, and community meetings. Complete evaluation forms distributed by administration. Assist in dorm/event set-up throughout the program. Communicate daily with staff members. Enforce Native Tribal Scholars rules and regulations. Live and work on-site for the duration of the summer program and training. Qualifications: • • • • • Bachelor’s degree or matriculating college students (juniors, seniors and graduate students preferred) with some counseling experience. Experience working with low-income and diverse populations (Native Americans preferred). Demonstrated sensitivity to the needs of participating students. High energy level and demonstrated ability to coordinate student activities. Valid Massachusetts driver’s license preferred, but not required. Compensation: $2,600 plus room & board.
