NATIVE TRIBAL SCHOLARS PROGRAM

POSITION OPENING: RESIDENTIAL TUTORS

Dates: July 1-August 9 (Summer Program)

Program Objectives:

The goal of the Native Tribal Scholars Program is to provide participants with the skills and motivation necessary for access to and success in post-secondary education. NTS offers an array of academic, personal enrichment and college/career services; designed to supplement high school education and is tailored to address specific student needs.

The following job description outlines a full-time, six-week summer RESIDENTIAL (i.e. live-in) position. Please note that the position requires a high level of professionalism as it involves being a role model and mentor for 30 high school students participating in the program.

Duties & Responsibilities:

Participate in staff orientation. Full participation is required.

Provide tutorial support for students enrolled in the courses to which you are assigned.

Attend all classes to which you are assigned and assist the instructor as needed.

Facilitate study hall and provide tutoring support as needed.

Regularly meet with the instructors of the courses to which you are assigned.

Monitor students in the dining hall during meals.

Remain highly visible to students and staff throughout the course of each day.

Attend daily staff/community meetings and communicate daily with other staff members.

Complete necessary evaluation forms distributed by administrators.

Assist in dorm/event set-up and clean up throughout the summer session.

Enforce Native Tribal Scholars rules and regulations.

• Carry out any other duties as assigned by the administrative staff.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree or matriculating college students (juniors, seniors and graduate students preferred) with some tutoring/counseling experience.

Education Department

• Experience with low-income and culturally diverse students, (Native Americans preferred).

High energy level and demonstrated sensitivity to the needs of high school students.

Ability to tutor students in at least one of the following subject areas: Language Arts,

Mathematics, Environmental Science, or Computer Science.

• Valid Massachusetts’s driver license preferred, but not required.

Compensation:

$2,600 plus room & board.

Supervision Received:

Supervised by the Director.
