Information about our LMES PTO After School Club FALL 2015 Session ● ● ● ● Courses are offered at the end of the school day, from 3:45-4:45 pm. Courses meet once weekly for SIX weeks, beginning 11/9/15 and ending 12/14/15. Courses for Fall 2015 are held on either Monday or Tuesday. Should school be cancelled on the day of your scheduled class, the class will be cancelled and a make-up class will be offered at the instructor’s discretion. There will be no refunds and no exceptions, as tuition charges are used to pay the instructors. Some of the instructors are not certified teachers but have a special skill or interest they would like to share with our children. After School Art: Monday – Grades K-5: Children will create awesome sculptures of everything under the sun! We will use wood, clay, wire and more to build bases, then we’ll use paint, fabric and lots of other treasures to decorate and build! Children will create a sketch or a plan then we will make small scale sculptures is each class! A diorama, a mini world in a jar and much much more. Class taught by Kate Gorum of The Golden Button. Min 8 – Max 20 $80.00 + $20.00 materials fee NEW! Creative Cartooning: Monday – Grades 3-5: Create exciting, digital comic strips and cartoon video on the iPad! Use your own cartoon character drawings and/or select from in-app images. Explore special effects like 3-D, green screen, video in video, voiceover, and avatar animation. This is a fun, imaginative and educational program that promotes creativity, visual communication and technical skills. 3-D glasses are included, individual iPads are provided for in-class use. Taught by staff of Creativity Planet. Min 6 – Max 10. $90.00 Happy Hooping! Monday – Grades 1-5: In this high-energy hoop class, we combine physical fitness with a variety of hoop games that build stamina and focus, foster team-building, leadership and cooperative play. We teach on and off body hoop tricks while enjoying age-appropriate music and creating a welcoming environment where creativity and self-expression are encouraged. We build self-confidence through hooping and there is never a dull moment in this class! Perfect for boys and girls of all ages. Min 6– Max 18. $75.00 LEGO in Motion: Monday – Grades K-2: Calling all Lego enthusiasts and builders to this program! We put fun in motion as students learn how to use wheels and axles, motors, kinetic energy and balance to create numerous contraptions which will be powered with motors and battery packs. Taught by staff of Computer Tots. Min 6- Max 12. $82.00 Introduction to Martial Arts : Monday - Grades K-5 : Students will gain an understanding for the values and benefits of Karate training, from increased focus, to developing all-out effort. Students will learn basic Tang Soo Do techniques and have an opportunity to break a real board at their final class. Class taught by Jeff O’Sullivan – 3rd Degree Black Belt. Min 6 – Max 18. $55.00 The Game of Chess: Tuesday - Grades 3-5: Students of all chess levels are welcome, from the beginner with no experience to those who wish to improve their game, this class will offer you challenges. Beginners will be instructed on piece movement and chess rules. All students will learn through playing matches against similarly skilled opponents, with instructor advice given after matches. Each week a new chess tip will be discussed and a challenge question will be given. Taught by Jeff O’Sullivan. Min 8 – Max 20 $50.00 Tennis Made Simple for Kids : Tuesdays - Grades 1-5: A creative, fun and easy way of learning tennis that gets fast results. Scaled down courts, racquets and slower balls are used. Skills reinforced through fun instructional games and personalized tips. Age appropriate racquets available for an additional $10.00 to rent, or $20.00 to purchase. Min 8 – Max 16 $83.00 “Yogacise” : Tuesdays - Grades K-5: “Yogacise” will consist of a fun filled hour of fitness activities, dance, games and yoga. We will explore the excitement of fitness along with the relaxation of yoga. Class taught by Mr. Derouin and Mrs. McVerry. PERMISSION POLICY: Your registration serves as permission for your child to stay for EVERY class date. A note is needed ONLY if your child is NOT staying for class. PICKUP PROCEDURE: Instructors will be escorting their classes to the front lobby of LMES at dismissal where they are met by a parent volunteer. It is your responsibility to promptly retrieve your child at 4:45 in the front lobby. This event is sponsored by the LMES PTO and requires volunteers to run. A discount is given to all volunteers!
