The program’s goal is to increase the number of students interested in, academically qualified for, and matriculating into programs of graduate study. VT-AMP is part of a larger grant, the Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation (LSAMP). LSAMP is one of the many grants sponsored by the National Science Foundation (NSF). VT-AMP supports sustained and comprehensive approaches that facilitate achievement of the long-term goal of increasing the number of students who earn doctorates in STEM fields, particularly those underrepresented in STEM fields. Incoming first year students are invited to participate in VT-AMP. If selecting, students will be allowed to move on campus a week before school begins and participate in workshops that will assist them in getting acclimated to the campus.
